NHL's Fists of Fury: 13 photos of hockey fights from the present season. The captions are pretty dumb, but the photos are great. This one is my favorite. Gotta love the intensity of Darcy Hortichuk and the flying helmet.

nice dude. Do you know if this is a regular feature over at SI?

Look at the background in that picture of Blake about to get his ass kicked. An empty arena and a sign that says: LET'S GO CAPS. Nice. Poor Caps. Its probably also a real bad idea, if Brashear is winding up and going to punch you, to respond by closing your eyes and looking away...

Do you know if this is a regular feature over at SI? I don't know, garfield. Sorry. Poor Caps. Yeah, they're pretty much skating an AHL team right now. However, that Ovechkin kid is going to be a nice cornerstone of that franchise. Plus, didn't have something like 4 or 5 first round draft picks over the last two season?

Its probably also a real bad idea, if Brashear is winding up and going to punch you, You didn't need to finish that sentence. It's always a bad idea to get into a fight with Brashear. Period. There was a great picture of Tucker getting into a fight with a Capital in yesterday's newspaper. He had his arm pulled back, ready to launch a punch. Tucker had that "I'm absolutely f*cking insane!" face going on, and you'd swear he'd try to punch right through the back of the Cap's head if he could.

Loved that picture of Iginla kicking ass. Also the look of apathy on Brashers face is priceless. He's just like "yawn" punching the shit out of Goddard. Awesome link. I say YESN MICH YESSSSSSS!!!!!

I like the McCarty shot. That's one pissed off dude!

well it should be. market the hell out of the fighting, I say. I bet the other major sports would quake in their figurative booties if the NHL actually played up the fighting. Or, at least people would want to watch on a Tuesay night. My favorite is McCarthy/Shelley. That is an awesome bout.

It's always a bad idea to get into a fight with Brashear. Period. Not if your name is Georges Laraque.

Does Jerome Iginla have tiny, tiny little fists, or is it just an optical illusion? Also, Darren McCarty is one scary looking sumbitch.

garfield I just agree with everything you say today. I got into hockey at a young age because of my love of violence. As I grew older I came to appreciate the game because of its mix of brutality and grace. If the NBA allowed fighting the whole Ron "beer chucker" Artest would not have happened. Wallace would have pounded his nancy ass and that would be that. The fighting is here to stay.

Does Jerome Iginla have tiny, tiny little fists, or is it just an optical illusion? It looks that way because half his fist is inside Moen's jersey.

Um yeah, can we make sure my wife doesn't see these? She's already on the fence about watching hockey at home as it is. Some pretty hardcore shots though and the photos weren't bad either.

12 hockey fights, and not a Dallas Star among them. My team is a bunch of wimps?

Do you know if this is a regular feature over at SI? Sort of, they add a few photo galleries every week. Not just hockey though.

Sort of, they add a few photo galleries every week. But sometimes each year?

I think we're loverlooking the important fact that the goon for Minnesota is named Boogaard. That's a fucking awesome hockey goon name. Boo-gaard. Wicked stuff.

Uh oh, they're circling, now the gloves hit the ice, and oh, look out, he just got Boogard-ed! I gotta copyright that.

It is definitely top 5 hockey name material.

panop, gray, thanks for the links. H8R, glad I'm agreeable. I try to be. Sometimes, it doesn't work out that way.

"Jeff Beukeboom" was, and still is, a better NHL tough-guy name. The photos were alright, but they could have been better. There have been some serious fights so far this year (fewer, yes, but no less fierce), including some broken noses and the like. I still get the sniffles, though, when two guys go at it for a long time, and just pat each other on the back, end it, and calmly skate off -- no hard feelings -- like this one fight a couple days ago. Can't remember who. Minnesota maybe? Dunno.

"Jeff Beukeboom" was, and still is, a better NHL tough-guy name. Stu Grimson Marty McSorely Garth Butcher Those were even better than Beukeboom.

And let us not forget: Dave Semenko. I can just imagine that name appearing in cartoon letters (Batman TV show style) over Chris Nilan's head after a knockout punch...SEMENKO!
