The NBA Pickem won't include tonight's games and will start with Wednesday's games when I post it. Our 19-year-old cat Spooky just died, so today just got a lot busier. He stopped eating and drinking after a good housecat life with a lot of sunning on the porch.

Aww, I'm sorry for your loss, rcade. It's always difficult losing them. We had two cats and two dogs that were all fairly close to the same age and it was a rough go of it for a while with them all getting old, sick, and dead pretty much at the same time.

Never easy saying good bye to a furry loved one. All the best, rcade, and cheers to Spooky.

RIP Spooky, very sorry to hear that.

I was always a major wreck about pet loss. Then I attended a wonderful compassionate farewell for a friend's dog at a vet's office. Now I'm slightly less of a wreck.

The thing that's unfair is: our daughter's cockatiel. Who somehow magically ended up remaining with us when she moved away. That bird lived to be over 20 and he was on his third dog when he died. He was quite a character but in all fairness, a dog should be able to live at least as long as he did.

Here's a good book that has helped me and I've given copies of it to others. I was on the phone with an Amazon rep one time and she saw this book in my purchase history while we were talking. We ended up spending over a half hour discussing our departed pets.

Condolences to your family, rcade. I worked in Vet Med for a number of years and took part in countless good-byes. It never gets any damn easier.

Just dropped in to say it was an entertaining hockey game tonight between my favorite hockey team and Nomich's. That's all I got. TTFN
Edit: my condolences, rcade.

My condolences on your loss, rcade. We have had to put down 3 cats, and a 4th we found passed away one morning. It's never easy. We now have 3 more who are considered geriatric (16 plus 2 who are 14), but they don't act that way. I'm not looking forward to what will happen in the next few years. Those who are without pets are usually do not understand how deep the connection is, but it is real.

Thanks, everyone. We had three old cats at the start of the pandemic: Goosebumps, Spider and Spooky. Two made it to 17 and this one to 19. It was the first time we had a cat that died at home with everybody around him. My son's two-year-old cat Cryptid isn't giving me a minute's peace. When I'm too long at the keyboard he sits on my hands.

Awww, Cryptid. Such a good kitty for doing that. We got a our daughter a kitten for Christmas and Skia has been a joy. Her and one of the dogs play all the time. The other dog just grumbles about it but her name is Mabel so maybe that's just a Mabel thing to do.

Judging from my results in the various pick 'ems, I think I might just turn the keyboard over to the cats. They would do better. They are persistent little critters.
