Toronto Maple Leafs Adopt New Logo: For the first time in 28 years, the Toronto Maple Leafs have made changes to their logo. The leafier leaf's a throwback to one last used in 1967, the year they won the last of their 13 Stanley Cup championships. I'm guessing that's no coincidence. "They can wear pink if they're going to start winning," Dillon Bouma told CBC.
13 veins at the top of the crest to commemorate the club's Stanley Cup Championships.
...
Nah, too easy.

I lined up the three logos and compared them and I have to say I do like the new one. Less busy than the classic older one it refers to. And I didn't realize how little I cared for the logo they just retired until I saw the three way comparison.
There are so many times when teams don't get logo changes right, but I think this one is well done. Considering it's intended use, I like the new one best of all.

If the team actually takes a step forward next year, the Leafs franchise is going to PRINT money with the new logo on hats/jerseys/t-shirts/cups/etc.
I was always a fan of the old logo (I have it on a Sittler jersey and on a Sundin jersey in my closet) because it was crisp, clean, and uncluttered.
That said, it was time to update it as it had been the same logo for my entire life (44 years) and they really, REALLY needed to try to put some space between themselves and the past 40+ years of failure (with brief moments of excellence...1978, 1992-1994, 1999-2002).
The new version looks very nice, but I'll be curious to see how they modify the rest of the jersey (stripes/arm crests/fonts).

The 1939-1962 version was the logo I first saw when I began to watch the NHL, but the 1967-1970 is the one I prefer. It really looks like a maple leaf, is uncluttered, and it was on the sweaters during some great years for Boston Bruins. Why Bruins? There was a pretty solid dislike between the 2 clubs in the "Big Bad Bruins" years, and that was the Toronto logo those of us who were fans in those years grew to hate. I am neutral on the new one, but if it helps the Leafs earn some Loonies, more power to them.

I missed this when it first got posted, but Uni Watch held a contest to let some of their folks have a crack at a Toronto makeover.

I've always like the Leafs' unis (and nothing else about them). I really like the more retro, fluid logo than the simple, modern design they've sported for the last 30 or so years.
