Bears Receiver Charged with Cocaine Distribution: Chicago Bears backup wide receiver Sam Hurd was arrested Wednesday night outside a Chicago restaurant after allegedly accepting a kilogram of cocaine from a confidential informant and an undercover federal agent posing as a drug supplier in an attempt to resell it. Hurd negotiated to buy five to 10 kilograms of cocaine (at $25,000 per kilo) and 1,000 pounds of marijuana a week (for $450 a pound), according to federal charges filed against him. Last offseason, Hurd joined the Bears in a three-year, $5.15 million deal. Chicago sports radio host Matt Spiegel tweeted, "They have a list of NFL players who got their drugs from Sam Hurd, and it's in the double digits."

If this is true, it's going to be a shit storm of trouble.

Maybe Jerome Simpson is one of them.

I wonder which two teams are most likely to include Hurd's customers.

Seems like he had his own source for reefer out in California, doesn't it?

No drug dealer is worth their weight in packing peanuts, but in some alternate universe, I can almost understand why some people resort to something like this as a last resort (I'm not justfying ... "almost understanding"). However, Hurd got a million+ signing bonus, receives almost $1 mill/year in salary and has a family. Hence this bringing out rare blind rage in me. Whether he is distributing this around all of Chicago or is more simply the hook-up for a bunch of other rich, hopefully-soon-to-be-out-of-the-NFL players, this guy has to be one of the world's top-notch morons.

no kidding, seriously, how hard could it have been for him to get an out of work friend to do the dirty work?

If he's just the hook-up for a small number of NFL players, they'll be easy to spot: the dead ones.

He has been put on waivers. I don't like people losing their livelihood for being arrested or charged.

You think that's bad - I've got to find another dealer!

I've heard players are advised to invest their money wisely when entering the league. Hurd must have only been present for a small portion of that session.
