38 Years of Super Bowl Commercials: The "world's largest archive of superbowl [sic] commercials." In some years all the regional ads are included as well, but "banned ads" that claim to have been rejected from the Super Bowl are not. The site has 38 out of the 44 super bowl years. [via MetaChat]
Yes, Terry Tate was an amazing set of commercials, and probably my 2nd favourite that have ever aired during the Super Bowl.
#1 is still the Apple Macintosh advertisement (1984). It only aired once, and I missed it, but the commercial is still amazing to watch. I'd say it's the greatest TV commercial of all time.

Man I miss Terry Tate, office linebacker (2003)
True that! I just finished watching those Terry Tate commercials and it brought me back to when I first saw that commercial and just was laughing so hard my boss asked me what was so funny. Him being just as big of a sports freak as I am saw the Tate video and was laughing as much as I was. Thanks for that terrapin!!

I miss the days of the early 00's, when E-Trade could just piss away money showing 30 seconds of dancing monkeys. Loved that.

Being able to see Justin Timberlake take it in the groin repeatedly was definitely worth paging through those ads!
Do love the 1983 Ford ad that pushes 11.9% interest rates...thank you Jimmy Carter!

Dviking, you might recall that Ronald "God of the Republicans" Reagan was elected in 1980.

the 1984 Apple Macintosh advertisement
Some friends and I were watching this SuperBowl stoned out of our minds. We slowly became aware that this commercial was on but not knowing it was a commercial. We started looking at each other with the same expression; "are you seeing what I'm seeing or am I REALLY fucked up". Then we thought someone changed the channel by mistake. It took three of us to find the remote and then we couldn't remember what channel the game was on. Good times.

30 seconds minutes of dancing monkeys
That was the Denver defense in the first half of Super Bowl XXIV. Or was it the first half of XXII?
Oh right, it was both.

I didn't even know that there were remotes back in 1984..as a matter of fact, I wasn't even aware that there were more than 4 channels back in '84... *sigh* nevermind. Damn UHF!!

I loved going back to the year I graduated high school to see what the ads were for during the Super Big Game. The Atari 5200 was sweet, dude. You could pause the game and everything! Totally radical!
My 2600 was a POS by comparison. I guess.

They were slightly smaller than a shoebox, which should give you some idea of how hammered we were.

Sort of like the first cell phone that was roughly the size of a brick?

I had a WIRED remote to my Betamax in 1984 (the year I graduated high school) and the remote only had play, stop and fast forward. Rewinding could only be done on the machine itself. If I was home sick I had to watch the same bloody channel ALL DAY. Kids these days can surf the Interwebs from their sick bed, chat with their friends (who are supposed to be in class) and order pizza delivery all from the same device.
I need a beer.

And then they still have the nerve to complain that they have nothing to do. Bastards!! Go outside and play!
