NFL commissioner Goodell says Michael Vick is eligible to play in 3rd game of regular season: Goodell met with Vick for 45 minutes Thursday before announcing his decision. Vick, recently signed by the Eagles, played in last week's exhibition game and was expected to play against the New York Jets on Thursday night.

I'm glad there is an end to this M Vick saga of what team, when will he be reinstated, wildcat package or whatever else. Its getting boring, but for some reason i keep paying attention.

Wait, there aren't 35 comments from PETA people protesting this on the message board? Those slackers just don't have the heart it takes really be considered activists.

Maybe we should have Michael take a few out back and drown them, maybe that will get them fired up and ready to protest. Just gotta make sure he only drowns the weak ones....

Based on his dismal performance last night against the Jets the commish did not do Philly any favors. I really don't see Vick helping the Eagles mugch and actually creating more of a distraction and QB controversy down the road.

Having been a Vick fan when he first started with the Falcons, I have to say now I wish he'd just go away and do used car commercials somewhere. The man got caught big time, relaxed sentence since he was a big name celeb (and don't tell me that if I got caught doing the same thing I wouldn't still be in jail facing another 15 to get out). Then when he's out, he goes back to being stupid.....pitiful excuse. Goodell should have just banned him for life the first time and we wouldn't have drama now. Maybe third time's the charm and next time we won't be hearing that name on a sports board anymore.

Oh and you actually have to drown animals for PETA to care. They don't give a crap about humans, just their precious little morsels..uhh animals.

The man completed the sentence he was handed by the court of law and is now attempting to piece his life back together. The subject of him being locked up is over with and now we should just be talking about Mike Vick the football player. It might just be the time to let it go.

You are absolutely right, BI. He kinda sorta sucks. As a player. Right now.

There do seem to be at least a couple of people arguing against straw men and people who aren't here.

He does kinda sorta suck right now. I find it interesting that his football parallels his off field behavior. He has always been an extremely gifted athlete. But as a professional quarterback his personality is the same as his off field personality. He relys on the natural talent he has but by his own admission he is lazy, and never worked hard on the field. He plays sand lot style of football that is too improvisational, lacks disipline, and is very impulsive. He is a bad decision maker in life and on the field, who's leadership skills are non existent. Why on earth any team would take him and then try to keep him playing QB is beyond me.

Last night I watched him throw the ball poorly, get sacked and turn the ball over. He did not seem to be able to elude any tacklers. Philadelphia is getting what they paid very little for and should get him at another position where he can just rely on that athletic ability, and forget about QB stuff.

On a side note the team is trying to get him working on behalf of animal rights groups but it seems they do not want him. DUH....

How do you tell the difference, aren't all PETA people vegetarians?

I'm tired of Vick. The guy is a scumbag. I don't care if he did his time, he got off lightly. Now he's back in the NFL because he creates controversy and draws attention to the league. He has great natural ability but obviously lacks intelligence and the finesse it takes to be a superstar, at any position, in the NFL. If you want to be a fan of this third-rate thug, all power to you. I'm just glad that Philly has to deal with the circus surrounding this overrated bust that is Vick!

Vick was a three-time Pro Bowler -- there's no doubt he's capable of being a superstar quarterback in the NFL.

That's a fine opinion, rcade, but I think even in his pro bowl years, his name carried him. Look at his stats. They are pedestrian for a quarterback. He is nothing but hype.

posted by Vikesfanh8sfavre at 12:41 AM on September 05, 2009

2002: 2936 yards passing, 16 passing touchdowns, 777 yards rushing and 8 rushing touchdowns

2004: 2313 yards passing, 14 passing touchdowns, 902 yards rushing and 3 rushing touchdowns

2005: 2412 yards passing, 15 passing touchdowns, 597 yards rushing and 5 rushing touchdowns

2006: 2474 yards passing, 20 passing touchdowns, 1039 yards rushing and 2 rushing touchdowns.

There's nothing pedestrian about a quarterback contributing from 3,000 to 3,500 yards of total offense a year and from 17 to 24 touchdowns. Before his legal trouble, Vick was one of the greatest double-threat quarterbacks in NFL history. The notion that he was an "overrated bust" is flat wrong. The numbers don't lie.

Absolutely. Vick was the kind of dual-threat that teams planned for before his legal problems got him locked up for 2 years so of course he is going to have some rust. Give him some time to acclimate himself to the Eagles offense this upcoming season and we'll probably see the same Vick again.

rcade, you left out one important stat! Completion percentage... 2001: 44.2 2002: 54.9 2003: 50 2004: 56.4 2005: 55.3 2006: 52.6

Overrated and pedestrian.

Completion percentage does not negate 13,450 total yards of offense in four seasons. I think you made a snap judgment about Vick and now that you're actually looking at the numbers, you can't justify it. He made the Pro Bowl three times in five seasons as a starter because his running overcomes deficiencies in his passing.

Pro Bowl slots for quarterbacks aren't easy to come by. Vick got them because he was one of the best in the NFC. I could see him replacing Donovan McNabb this season and never giving the job back.

I think you're mistaking Vick for Tavaris Jackson.

2 years in jail and plenty of rust to go along with it, doubtful. McNabb is one of the most UNDER-rated QB's in NFL history. I'm no Eagles fan by any means but McNabb has been one of the best QB's in the NFL for the past 10 years. Sure, he's been injury prone but his numbers don't lie.

posted by BornIcon at 01:09 PM on September 07, 2009

I don't think Tavaris Jackson has ever been overrated. Pedestrian, yes. I agree about McNabb being underrated.

Rcade, you look at four seasons, I look at his career as a whole. Sure the guy can run and can make some incredible plays, but as a quarterback, he is nothing special. He's a better version of Kordell Stewart. Maybe completion percentage does not negate his 13,000 plus yards of total offense, but it does indicate his effectiveness as a qb. If you can't complete passes, you are not going to win. I guess that's why I haven't seen Vick in a Super Bowl.

Yeah, sorry about that. I was going with pedestrian for TJ, not overrated. One would actually have to be rated in the first place in order to be in the over/under category.

Vikesfanh8sfavre, it might be safe for me to assume that your a Vikings fan, right? When did a Vikings fan ever became an expert in QB's considering the lack of talent in that department from that organization? Vikes fans were confident about the possibilty of either TJ or Sage Rosenfels holding down the fort until Brett Favre came to save the day. If McNabb were a Viking instead of an Eagle, I'll bet that your knees would be soiled from you paying homage to Mr. Chunky Soup.

I know mines would and I'm a Cowboys fan.

posted by BornIcon at 03:30 PM on September 07, 2009

BornIcon, you are saying that a Vikings fan is incapable of judging quarterback talent based upon the team he favors. That is illogical and asinine! I'm still a FOOTBALL fan and recognize great talent when I see it. I don't deny that Vick has exceptional talent, I just exclude him from elite quarterbacks based upon his career. By the way, you forget that the Vikes organization produced Fran Tarkenton, still one of the greatest QBs ever. Of course, you may not be old enough to remember him. That being said, you can tell I'm no fan of Farve and I would take McNabb any day of the week over him (but I pay homage to no-one, so my knees would remain clean).
