Shoulda started this earlier (I tried to get one going at work, but we already had two pools). anyway, I'm way in. This type of pool is a lot harder than it looks.

I'm in. The last two of these I joined I bombed out when I picked Miami over Houston, so I should be safe now. If yerfatma joins us I hope his team is called "fucking ridiculous."

Color me in...Denver (Hate them) is a lock this week. Ah, but see, that's what makes suicide deceptively difficult. You pick Denver this week? Fine, but...that's the last time you get to use 'em.

Please let my Zombie Nagurski make it past two weeks this year. Hell, if anyone makes it past four weeks, I'll be surprised.

I'm in---This is tough. I remember years ago, probably 1988, that Doug Williams burst appendix eliminated me---against Tampa Bay, no less.

Shouldn't be full, chico, it was set to 20 teams but I bumped it to 25 so you can get in.

It said it was full! Well regardless, thanks for upping it. The Idiot Kickers are gonna straight-up butter your scones, and then serve you tea besides.

So far the major competition is for best team name. And it's not bad.

p.s. so, am I the only one who's gonna stick my neck out and make a pick? Won't that mean you all are eliminated? Sweet! I have won!

p.s. so, am I the only one who's gonna stick my neck out and make a pick? Won't that mean you all are eliminated? Sweet! I have won! Nah, everyone has made their pick, you just can't see who each chose until games start on Sunday. The '--' indicates such. FWIW, even though I loathe them, I took the Cowboys. Safe enough bet, and with their next three upcoming games, I've no use for them as far as survival is concerned. I have a terrible record in such leagues, though, so one who needs a quick $20 may not be unwise to throw a few on the Texans.

I know something you don't know, I know something you don't know! Okay, I'll tell you. I have it on good authority that the Denver Broncos will be completely unable to perform today due to a team-wide outbreak of double-ender food poisoning ("Two exits -- no waiting!"). Taking their place on the field will be the Buffaloes of CU Boulder which, despite having sacrificed the CU men's tennis program on the altar of their vanity (and bad finances), have gone 1 and 7 this year. Their lone victory came yesterday over the Fort Collins Middle School flag football team. So, I'd say it's going to be about an even matchup.

Quick breakdown: 25 Teams: Denver: 7 Dallas: 5 Washington: 4 San Diego: 3 Chicago: 2 Buffalo: 2 New York Jets: 1 Detroit: 1 I came awfully close to being in that Washington camp. Glad I elected otherwise.

I said it on the league page, and I'll repeat it here. At least YYM didn't lose by picking against the Lions. The irony would have been delicious. Your tears are like sweet nectar.

Damn. What a great game. I'd attempt to write a column or GMYFBA(gain)FW, but I'll just throw out some touchstones: -- Is that, mayhaps, the first time in MNF (or even NFL) history that a team has come back from 20 down to win without scoring an offensive touchdown? -- Grossman looked, sadly, Gross again...man. -- Leinart completely looks like a veteran. He impressed me quite a bit, even though Leapin' Larry's sidelined. -- I'm not sure which was better, watching the Bears come back in such a great fashion, watching Lovie give a manhug to Urlacher, or listening to Theismann alternate between fellating Urlacher and Leinart. Seriously, Joe, it's not shameful to ever say anything negative. -- Come late in the season, when these games actually matter, I can't wait to hear Joe T and Tony Korn really, *really* get into it. Especially if Korny sits back like a vulture while the meat of the game is going on and then persists on picking at Joe's previous statements during opportune times. That's going to be TV worth listening to. -- Breathe a sigh of relief, the two of you that took the Bears.

I wholeheartedly apologize for my previous post, but I was caught up in the moment of an unbelievable, strange, game. It was strange for me, not being a fan of either team, but finding Leinerts's future very interesting, and Urlacher's career amazing. Both are a credit to the league. To me, this is what sports are all about. When a game you really care nothing about draws you in and captivates you, well, I guess that just about explains it the best I can. Congrats to the Chicago 2.

Damn. Denny Green seems to have some *cough* baggage from his time in Minnesota. ...awkward...

posted by Ufez Jones at 11:52 PM on October 16, 2006

Denny Green is a fuckin' stroke. At some point he his going to have to accept the fact that his team can't finish. When a team implodes like that in the second half (two weeks in a row, mind you), the bulk of the blame has to fall on the head coach.

posted by willthrill72 at 01:20 AM on October 17, 2006

Denny Green seems to have some *cough* baggage from his time in Minnesota. Are we talking about the stripper he impregnated and compelled to have an abortion? Because there's a gag order about that.

yerfatma -- Link goes nowhere. Just an FYI.

posted by hawkguy at 08:39 AM on October 17, 2006

Weird. It still works for me, but it's probably cached. It's a link to a search for "dennis green" inside the book Pros & Cons on Amazon. Page 121 is the citation in question, but I don't think they let you link to details. It also looks like the Search Inside feature is Flash. Not sure if that's the problem.
