Another Yahoo Fantasy Hockey League.........: Fantasy Hockey It's not to late. Skydivemom has set up a Yahoo Fantasy Hockey League using the Fanatsy Point Scoring System. Fantasy point scoring is similar to rotisserie scoring, except that each category is weighted based on its perceived value to a team (e.g. goals are worth more than assists). Fantasy point scoring is only available in Custom Leagues, and the commissioner must specify both the categories used and the point modifier values. If the commissioner does not specify a point modifier for a given category, no fantasy points accrue in that category. 12 Team Max allowed in FPS Leagues on Yahoo. So join now. Draft is Monday Oct. 16th 6:15PM EST. Autodraft set if you can't be live for the draft. Details Inside. Thanks

We can weight categories in Yahoo!? I did not know that. Interesting feature, we should consider it for next year's main league. I'll pass on this one, as I'm trying to cut down on my fantasy sport habit. Thanks for setting this up, though, sdm!

uh...verbatim of what q said. I can't wait for the weighting debates to start about mid-August.

Thanks for this. I thought I had missed the boat on spofi fantasy hockey this year. Though my past performances indicated that may have been a good thing.

You can weight the categories but points are scored rather than fluidly earned roto-style. I prefer the h2h system myself since it is almost like a new game every week. with the roto or pts system you can be out of it a long long time before it is over (like me surging to a 2nd from bottom finish in the MLB roto pool this year).

I felt bad for mkn and thought this sounded like an cool idea. I also have watched dad have quite a conversation with weedy about weighted scoring and I suggested this format for them. The max number of teams is 12 and we can not raise it in this league so join quick. We do need to have an even number of teams though. Of course my team is Mama's Boys and you should all cower in my presence.

Awesome, I was kicking myself for not jumping in one of the other one's. And this one does indeed sound like a great idea. And you guys indeed are superstars.

(like me surging to a 2nd from bottom finish in the MLB roto pool this year). Nobody had a chance in that one.

I've gotta pass on this one - but I find myself amazed at the depth of the passion for hockey on this site. I mean, the NBA H2H pool is waiting on somebody to take the 14th spot. And I don't think of the NFL having this many (what do we have - a roto, h2h, a pts and a low commitment pick em) pools.

sorry sammy my bad - I realized we can change it to 14 so I did. We still do need an even number though. Welcome goddam - this will make campfire real interesting! (If we ever get back into it like last year!)

Here's the point weights settings and categories as of now. Open for discussion of course. If you have opinions we'd love to hear them. League opens for scoring Tuesday the 17th. G (2), A (1), +/- (.75), PIM (.25), PPP (1), GWG (.5), W (1.5), GA (1), SV (.5), SHO (2) I think sv needs to be .10pt Let us know.
posted by skydivedad at 10:50 PM on October 12, 2006
if it's a points league, why do you need an even number of teams?
posted by goddam at 10:53 PM on October 12, 2006
If you still need an even number of teams on Monday morning, I'll sign up. I'm pretty sure I'd lose, so I leave the spot open in case someone more competitave comes along.

I am so used to H2H that I just assumed we needed to but we don't. We did raise it to 20 though because it did fill up so fast. I am new at this commish thing but dad is helping with it and we are very open to suggestions.

s'ok mom. thanks for doing this.

apoch and any other spofite. Go ahead and sign up. We'd love to have you join us and you have just a good a chance at winning as anyone else. The max teams setting has been changed to 20 so no problem. Beside even if you don't win you'll enjoy the heck out of participating. There are also awards for other things besides the Champions Trophy......

My goodness, I am so consumed with hockey that dad has not gotten any homemade cookies or clean laundry in a week! This is going to be a long and great season!

SDMom, from one commish to another, good call on upping the team limit to 20. (Sorry. I've been drinking wine all night and raging at JS Aubin for coughing up a 3-goal lead in the 3rd period. I thought he was the future in net for the Leafs. Fuck.)
posted by chicobangs at 11:45 PM on October 12, 2006

Every time I think I'm out, they pull me back in...Concussion Central in the hizzie. First H2H league for me. Should be interesting. I witnessed the Leafs catch the early flight back to T.dot from Jersey last night. What a crap third period. And a crap first half of the first. And what crappy refereeing?!!! When you can't beat Marty when he gives you 5 in one period, you don't deserve to be in the league. Total step backwards for Maurice & Co.

Thankfully, for the people around me, that game was on a channel I did not get. SDD - I think you've done a marvelous job with the point system. I have no detractions. I will happily play with things the way they are.

I'm feeling a little rough this morning. If NJ continues scoring like like that, I'm going to need a smaller shot glass or a new liver.
posted by MrFrisby at 09:37 AM on October 13, 2006
Heck it seems all the NJ players are scoring except the guy I have on 2 Fantasy Teams although he did manage an asst. last night. Gomez's line for the year so far G (0) A (4) PIM (-1)............ Heatley and Iginla are killing me in 2 leagues just like Gomez and don't even bring up Kovachuk..... arghhh...... I can't buy a goal in the H2H league........and the guy I'm playing against has 2 players with hat-tricks. Thank God it's a long season and the Blackhawks are showing some life. What the hell is wrong with OTT and TOR?
posted by skydivedad at 11:30 AM on October 13, 2006
weedy: I've given it some thought and I'm going to change the S setting to .10 pts.. So 1 pt for every 10 saves. Imagine the heart ache when your guy in the pipes has 29 saves with 30 seconds remaining, he's threwing a shut-out and Crosby rips a long shot off a Defenders skate with .07 secs left to tie the game. No (SHO) and no 3rd pt. for (S) and maybe no (W). Diabolical, I like it!
posted by skydivedad at 11:44 AM on October 13, 2006
no 3rd pt. for (S) wouldn't you be awarded 2.9 pts though?

........and the guy I'm playing against has 2 players with hat-tricks. Right now I am loving Schneider and Cheechoo. However, Bryzgalov and Toskala are pissing me off. For some reason I keep playing the one when I should be playing the other. Here it is Friday and my goalies have only played 1 game. Thanks for the advice on Raycroft though. After Aubin's performance last night, Raycroft might be the one goaltender I can count on to play.

What would help is if Toronto, San Jose, and Anaheim quit playing on the same freaking night. Then I wouldn't have to guess who was going to be starting.

garfield: flash-back ........ wow, I saw this bum play. In the NHL and the AHL he was incredibly bad at all aspects of professional hockey, a perfect 1st round pick for the pre Talon Chicago Blackhawks. Thanks for the memories..... Oh, did you see some of the guys who came out from that draft year. Someone in Chicago must have been drinking vodka and chasing the next Russian Superstar and leaving guys like Justin Williams on the board to take this bum....... excuse me I need to go freshen up!

posted by garfield at 03:46 PM on October 13, 2006
apoch When you registered your team autodraft was set. If your not around for the live draft it will kick in for you using the Yahoo player rankings. You can rank your own players and use that instead just click the rank your players link on the league page.
posted by skydivedad at 04:02 PM on October 13, 2006
Dammit - have to autodraft according to Yahoo's ranking. I negelected to pre-rank and now can't be home in time to participate. This is not going to be good.
