Happened to me too and all I tried to post was "ROFL"--without the quotes. But other threads are not an issue. Hummphm.

its the u1k (user 1000) bug. we hadn't did the proper code conversions for 4-digit user numbers and now we're gone and broken the 'intermanet'. Emergency instructions for broken intermanet: please purchase an electric generator, seek higher elevations, check on elderly neighbors, keep your pets indoors, apply firm pressure to wounds, ration canned goods, store bottled water, wear multiple layers of loose-fitting warm clothing and for god's sake keep away from the windows.

I'm getting it the Clemens thread now. It wasn't that long a comment. Screw it, I'll post it here and cut/paste it later: This might increase the chance that Clemens goes into the HOF wearing a Red Sox cap. If he retired as a Yankee, I would have said it was a 50/50 chance of Yankee/Red Sox. But playing one more season like this might make that whole Yankee tenure look a little less important. And the Yankees screwed themselves out of a draft pick: by insisting he was going to retire, the Yankees didn't bother to offer him arbitration, meaning that they don't get a draft pick because he was signed by the Astros...offer the arbitration, and the Astros would have to give up a pick for 2004.

Y'all go ahead and post your rejected comments here. Let's see if it all turns into some sorta sports-Dadaist performance piece. It might even make sense. If that happens, I recommend throwing in some Monty Python or Simpsons quotes. That always sets things right.
posted by worldcup2002 at 09:40 PM on January 12, 2004
Well, I would post it, were it not for the complete rejection syndrome I'm forced to deal with now. Like, what I say isn't good enough, and stuff. *whimper*

Three major reasons: they got older, their defense got dramatically worse, and their bench may be the worst bench ever fielded by a major league team. Consider first the roster changes. The M''s: *replaced Mike Cameron with Raul Ibanez, who is older and inferior to Cameron in every way -- especially defensively, where Cameron is an elite player. Despite Ibanez'' playing in a phenomenal hitters'' park, Cameron also posted comparable numbers at bat; *replaced Jeff Cirillo, a miserable offensive player and a superlative defensive player, with Scott Spiezio, an average offensive player and miserable defensive player; *replaced Carlos Guillen with Rich Aurilia. While Aurilia might be better than Guillen from a durability perspective, he''s also five years older. Guillen''s also probably better defensively, and been just as good or better offensively the last two years. If you put aside Aurilia''s fluke 2001, he''s a pretty average player on the wrong side of 30. Consider also: *they moved Randy Winn, an above average left fielder, to center, where he will be below average; *that their pitching staff doesn''t get a lot of strikeouts, so they rely extensively on (a dramatically downgraded) defense; *that one of their two best hitters -- Edgar -- is long in the tooth and injury-prone. Who takes his at-bats when he gets hurt or needs a rest? Dave Hansen? Willie Bloomquist? The M''s traded their only decent bench bat, Greg Colbrunn, for an outfielder (Quinton McCracken) who has no business in a major league uniform. The other bench "bats" we might trot out there include Dan Wilson, Ramon Santiago, Luis Ugueto and Wiki Gonzalez. We''re inviting Marvin Benard to spring training to try out for the fifth outfield slot. Good lord. All of these players make a giant sucking sound. This offseason has been a complete disaster. The only reason the Mariners even have a chance to compete with the A''s is that our payroll is twice what theirs is.', '4.35.87.94')" Data Source = "SPORTSFILTER" The error occurred while processing an element with a general identifier of (CFQUERY), occupying document position (24:1) to (24:35) in the template file D:INETPUBWWWROOTSPORTSFILTERSPORTSFILTER.COMWWWROOTCONTRIBUTEPOST_COMMENT_PREVIEW.CFM.
