Sportsfilter didn't make the cut at Forbes.com as one of the best sports blogs. Take a look at what they consider to be the top five. Not for nothing, but I'd like to add that Forbes isn't on my list of top five magazines.

"The best sports blogs are those that traffic in polemics. This may be because legitimate news sites aren't allowed to tally the number of athletes caught with marijuana or the incidents of violence by sports parents." Oh, come on. So he's measure of "best" is which ones have the most controversial content? (Even by that clueless measure, we'd be in the top 3.) Davide Duckevich is the writer of this clueless piece. Is he ripe for ridicule? SpoFi: We don't traffic in polemics enough.

You are SO wrong jerseygirl...

I don't buy the premise that sports weblogs are presenting novel content by covering athletes in trouble. Sports talk radio shows eat that stuff up. It's a shame not to show up in the top 5, but when you look at the nominees, it doesn't look like the Forbes writer did much surfing to find them. Have we ever linked to any of those sites?

Stop me if I'm wrong, but isn't SpoFi the only "Collaborative Community Sports Blog" (please don't imagine me making "finger quotes" for emphasis)? Doesn't that merit at least a special mention?

posted by lilnemo at 03:13 PM on September 30

From Forbes.com: Davide Dukcevich is a staff writer at Forbes.com. He has worked at Bloomberg in Milan, Italy, and at the Daily Progress in Charlottesville, Va.
SpoFi: If you see Davide Dukcevich, staff writer of Forbes in your area... knee him in the groin. And tell him, "That's for SpoFi!" Oh, and if you get the chance, ask him why he spells David with an "e".

posted by lilnemo at 03:16 PM on September 30

I think maybe Sportsfilter just isn't that visible. Honestly, it's pretty well hidden. It's listed on in the Yahoo! directory (it was a Yahoo!Pick in late February of last year), but doesn't even show up in the Google directory for collaborative webklogs. Can we do something about that? A few more links to SpoFi would probably be helpful, although Iíve recently noticed links leading here at Hockey Pundits and Boston Sports Blog.

posted by Samsonov14 at 03:19 PM on September 30

Nah, I still say nail David'e' in the nads.

samso: Webklogs? That's a Dutchgirl's online diary, right?

posted by worldcup2002 at 03:23 PM on September 30

Sports Talk Radio reports gossip, innuendo, and monosyllabic gushing and gets called tripe. A fan puts up a blog reiterating what you can hear just about anyday on Jim Rome and end up in Forbes?

posted by lilnemo at 03:23 PM on September 30

wc2k2, yes its a Dutchgirl's online diary, her name is David'e'.

posted by lilnemo at 03:25 PM on September 30

Why does he spell Dukcevich Dukcevich? Dweebe. Dorke. Doofuse.

posted by worldcup2002 at 03:30 PM on September 30

I googled Dudevich (heh) and found that he emailed the guys at skateboardingsucks.com (tagline: "Did you see the size of the dick on that chicken?") for help on his article (this guy is a genius). Check out the thread for that community's response. [excerpt] Dear Skateboarding Sucks: I'm writing an article on good sports Web logs and was hoping you could reccomend some good skating blogs. Thanks! Davide Dukcevich Staff writer Forbes.com Yes, Mr I-work-for-Forbes had his misspelling corrected by a skater dude. Boing! Hahahahahahahaha. Dear Davide, Are there others out there? Maybe our readers could tell you where all of our shit is. Our 'Keepin' It Real' Section may help you out a bit too. But Forbes will get no help from us. We skate alone. p.s. don't forget to spellcheck Sux [/excerpt]

I recommend everyone go there and vote "None of the above." I also recommend this plsy someone should write a little app that sends about 5,000 emails to the editor, all with the same words but from different (faked) addresses, praising SpoFi and ridiculing the dweebe.

SpoFi: sorry I can't continue the comment meme. I gotta say that Fortune webpage is an eyesore. there is content on there somewhere? i kept looking for more of a write up or reasoning for their selections. If such editorial rationale was provided I will admit to completely missing it. I'd also give a hey to Sports Frog as far as good sports blogs. I mean I don't visit all that much (getting my fill here) but it looks nice and gets updated frequently. Don't dig their commenting via bulletin boards though and it isn't as collaborative/community assembled as SpoFi is but it is good at what it sets out to do I guess.

Sports Frog is pretty good, but I've had hard time warming up to them because they hate hockey. How can you hate hockey? It's unhateable! Not like those filthy Irish and their Water Polo.

I recommend everyone go there and vote "None of the above." they seem to be using a simple cookie to track votes. just delete the forbes.com cookie and close yr browser...then surf on back for ballot stuffing goodness.

Suck it, DavidE ... suck it long, and suck it hard. Just out of curiosity, why is a writer from Forbes worried about the best sports blogs? "This month in Forbes: Larry Flynt tells you how to decorate your office tastefully, John Madden on quiet business negotiations and Janet Reno in the buff!"

posted by wfrazerjr at 09:43 PM on September 30

It's obviously all about the money. And this piece was an easy space-filler for not a lot of work. Lazy? You be the judge. His criteria: "Traffic in polemics" His research methods: email skateboardingsucks.com His conclusion: "They don't make money" Length of article: Half a page "Nice work if you can get, and if you get it, won't you tell me how ..."

posted by worldcup2002 at 11:09 PM on September 30

Forbes has been running a number of these best XXX blogs in recent months. I believe MeFi was a choice in one.

posted by billsaysthis at 11:14 PM on September 30

The "Replacement Level Yankee" blog is pretty good (in terms of single-team blogging), but as he points out on his own website, it isn't even the best baseball blog out there. My personal favourites for baseball (besides our beloved SpoFi) are Aaron Gleeman's Baseball Blog and Baseball Primer.
