U.S. May Lose Out on Bid to Co-Host World Cup: Three months before the vote, the 2026 World Cup has a front runner and it isn't the North American combined bid by the U.S., Mexico and Canada. It's Morocco. Sam Borden of ESPN suggest the problem may be the occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania. He asks, "At this particular moment in time, does the world want to give something nice to the United States?"

LeBron James: NCAA is Corrupt: "I do know what five-star athletes bring to a campus, both in basketball and football. I know how much these college coaches get paid. I know how much these colleges are gaining off these kids. [......] Me and my mom was poor, I'll tell you that, and they expected me to step foot on a college campus and not to go to the NBA? We weren't going to be poor for long, I'll tell you that. That's a fact."

Jerry Jones is Not as Powerful as He Thought: In another sign of how badly Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones lost his war with Roger Goodell, the NFL commissioner is about to drop a multi-million fine on Jones. Goodell has the power to do this for conduct he considers detrimental to the league, such as threatening to sue the compensation committee of owners deciding Goodell's contract renewal.

The 2018 Winter Olympics are over and Norway won: With a record-setting 39 medals (14 gold), Norway surely overachieved at these games. USA were the main gifters, I'd say, finishing fourth with 23 (9 gold). Esther Ledecka (Czeck Republic) was my favorite medalist at these Games, the first two win gold in two different sports at the same Olympiad, winning in both snowboarding and skiing. Tokyo is just over two years away, hey hey!

MLB Execs Consider Wild 9th-Inning Batting Rule: Some MLB executives have discussed letting the losing team have any three batters it chooses in the ninth inning, according to Rich Eisen. One said, "Best argument is that no other sport has the best players sitting on the bench in the final minutes of a game."

NBA Pick 'Em Week 19: Coach Yourself Edition: There are seven national NBA games on the tube this week, beginning with two tonight on TNT and ending with two on ABC and ESPN on Sunday. In the Pace Mannion, NoMich expands a first-place lead to 31 by scoring 28 while everyone else was 11 or worse. Howard_T keeps second at 453 and I move into third. Remember when evaluating Golden State that the team is no longer coached by Steve Kerr.

How Haudenosaunee women are overcoming stigma to earn a place in lacrosse: it gives girls a chance to be lifted up, and given a chance to do something that is unique because it originated in North America and it originated with their own people. And it becomes part of the weave of the fabric here.

Carlos Cordeiro Wins U.S. Soccer Election: The new president of U.S. Soccer is Carlos Cordeiro, who won a third-round vote over Kathy Carter Saturday in Orlando. He was Sunil Gulati's second-in-command so this is not exactly a sign of big changes after the U.S. men's crushing failure to make the World Cup.

Geoff Cameron: What Must Change in U.S. Soccer: "But this is the mentality that is so toxic across the board in youth soccer in America. It’s not about proving yourself every day. It’s about what you did last year. It’s about who you know. It’s about your size. It’s about your reputation. It’s about what fancy youth club you play for."

Isaiah Thomas Traded for Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance: The Cleveland Cavaliers have traded Isaiah Thomas, Channing Frye and a protected first-round pick in 2018 to the Los Angeles Lakers for Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance. Thomas only played 15 games for the Cavs. The trade gives the Lakers $46.9 million in cap room. But wait, there's more: The Cavs traded Dwyane Wade to the Miami Heat for a protected second-round pick and acquired Rodney Hood and George Hill in a three-way deal with the Utah Jazz and Sacramento Kings, giving up Iman Shumpert and a 2020 second-round pick to the Kings and Jae Crowder and Derrick Rose from Cleveland to the Jazz.

Scooby10672 wins the week with 52, hitting 5 of 6 locks. Make your picks and avert your eyes during the Cleveland games until LeBron says it's OK to watch them again.

The Film the NFL doesn't want you to see: In addition to the torn ACLs and MCLs, in addition to all of the horrible broken bones, the NFL diagnosed at least 281 traumatic brain injuries this season. And no document has ever quite displayed the horror of it all like “Concussion Protocol,” [an experimental, reverse motion] film by Josh Begley and Field of Vision. First link also includes audio discussion with Begley, Sean King, and Donte Stallworth, and a trailer for the film itself.

I guess when you sleep under bridges, you learn to expect the unexpected. ... We talked for a minute or two, about my editor’s idea and journalism in general. After a brief pause, he said, “You ought to do a story about me.” I’ve heard this line many times before, and many more since. “And why would I want to do that?” I said. “Because,” he said, “I’ve played in three Super Bowls.”
