The Americans fell victim to one of the classic blunders!

  1. Never get involved in a land war in Asia.
  2. Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line.
  3. Never get into a shootout with the Czech Republic.

Or...USA Hockey could have told the Olympic organizers:

"Look, this is ridiculous. We want to play one game against good old Czechoslovakia instead of back to back games against these splinter groups".
