I'm getting the "unable to connect" error a lot too. I couldn't get the site to open this week at all untill Wednesday afternoon.

I saw this on line on niketalk.com yesterday. Why has this not made Sportscenter yet? What an amazing athlete!

Nope. The disgusting part is we had some bad storms in my area last night and I switched to watch the weather at half time. I missed the entire comeback. The weather seems more important the day after a town not too far from here is 85% destroyed by a tornado. That's two in Kansas in two years.

I have. It's almost as much pleasure as it is pain. By the way, the Celtics look like idiots right now.

I just re-read that too. Yeah, that wasn't quite as monumental as BPP's.

As a four-digiter, I was quite proud. I miss the old dude. The thread is in the locker room archives under "navel gazing." I go back occasionally to re-read it.

Yep, Tin Pan Alley was where Brother's is now. Brother's in Lawrence has a real hip-hop vibe to it and really isn't my kind of place. Brother's in other towns I have been to are sports bars. I preferr Johnny's north of the reiver. Typical sports bar but amazing LCD's and food.
posted by hawkguy at 04:09 PM on May 08, 2008
If it was down town, it sounds like Tin Pan Alley. There was a big sign over the door that said "Welcome to Tin Pan Alley. Eat and get out!" Do you remember if it was down town?

jojo, I think that would have made a fine FPP. Scared the crap out of me just watching it. It would take several large men with firearms to get my acraphobic rear end up that trail.

Sounds great. Doesn't seem like a lot of interest was expressed, anyway. I think a lot of the KC guys might not know the locker room exists.

I believe it was 1988, but it could have been 89, but I saw Pearl Jam in a free concert on the Hill here in Lawrence, Kansas. It was the same year I saw Monsters of Rock at Arrowhead. Monsters of Rock had Crue, Guns and Roses, and many other greats. I'll probably catch hell for saying this, but Monsters of Rock was the second best concert I ever attended. Second only to Billy Joel/Elton John at Kemper. That, my friends, was amazing.

Folkways, what artist did you start with? Other people's taste in music interests me as well. (Admins, thanks for fixing the double post. There were three, but I got one deleted in time. PC just borked for a while this morning.)
posted by hawkguy at 12:38 PM on February 19, 2008
Folkways, you might enjoy Pandora. You enter an artist that you like, and it will play only music by artists it considers like the original. For example, I keep mine on Billy Joel most of the time at work. It will play Elton John, Springsteen, Beatles, etc, and will run as long as you like. Awesome.

I remember the Pine Tar game. I thought Fred white was going to stroke out! He was just about apoplectic. Then when they ended up finishing the game, he was just brutal to Billy Martin. God that was fun! In 85 when Denkinger missed the call that should have given the Cards the series, even the Royals announcers admitted that it was a terrible call. What people forget, though, is that they played a game after that, and the Cards didn't show up.

Where I live, there are some local legends like Max Falkenstein and Bob Davis, who covered Kansas sports for years. Max is retired now, but I still hear his voice every time I watch KU in any sport, which is a lot. Now Paul Splittorf covers Kansas, and does a great job. On the Royals side, it used to be Fred White and Denny Trease. I grew up laying in bed listening to them both, back when the Royals were good. I looked forward to going to bed as a kid because I could hear them talking about Cookie Rojas and Amos Otis, George, Willie, Frank White, Freddy Patek, etc. Man, those were the days.

Westmoreland questioned what the heck everybody was doing there in the first place, saying it wasn't Congress' role to investigate individual players and that "if we called everyone who was accused of using steroids before this committee, we'd have to shut this place down." Finally, a voice of reason. Jeebus, what are they doing there?

[vet] I have to admit that I should have e-mailed or brought the spelling and grammar situation up in the locker room. I went back and reread my comment after (dyams I think) brought it up. It came off as extremely snarky even for me.

Nakeman, if that's the worst thing that happens to you this week, you're in good shape. It's an easy fix that another member offered advice on to help him fix. Sarcasm and togetherness from long-time members are part of the deal on SpoFi. That said, you have adapted well. Take it in stride, and remember that you don't even know the guy. I also commented on his spelling, and I think he was kind of combative to you. (Not that I even agreed with you). We may be an on-line community, but we're still a community nonetheless.

Ajaffe, I believe it is a signal to a receiver to start going in motion, or some other type of signal like a silent count. It can be a different signal depending on the offensive system.

Why do you support who you do?
Growing up on a farm in Central Kansas, you don't have a lot of choices. I spent a lot of time listening to the Royals at night, with me, my father, grandfather, and great-grandfather all in the same room. Great-grandad loved Amos Otis and Cookie Rojas. I never appreciated those evenings enough at the time, but now they are some of my favorite memories.
College-wise, it's an easy guess, considering my screen name and the fact that I now live in Lawrence. Jayhawks, baby. I fear that this year being a Jayhawk will pale in comparison to last season (how could it not?) I also pay attention to LSU, since I spent a lot of time in S.E. Louisiana for work in the past.
Love the Chiefs, too, even though it looks like they might rival the Dolphins in suckitude this season. Go away Carl Peterson!
