If the Sox want it, why doesn't the team just buy it from him? Oh wait, I forgot how every baseball franchise is magically losing money.

I know the networks like to cross-promote their record label's musical acts during sporting events. But seriously, aside from the obvious economic considerations, who the fuck is programming these half time shows? Do they understand the TV audience for a college bowl game is probably not the kind of audience that will be receptive to these pop princesses? I don't see why they don't show Dave Matthews or The Roots (or whatever big acts they have signed that might actually appeal to their audience demographic). At least they had their token country singer for the redneck dollar.

How so? His use seems to match my understanding. It's been a while... however, in Plato's metaphor the shadows on the wall are reality (as humans experience it), whereas the things creating the shadows/reality are the universal forms or ideals. I don't see WTF that has to do with football though.

I think sometimes Americans mistakenly believe that European nations are tolerant, pluralistic societies. However, that does not seem to be the case. What do you think would happen if the fans threw bananas at the players during a major league baseball game? Would that be tolerated?

Maybe it's me but I don't care. You still have to hit the damn ball. More strength produces greater bat-speed, which enables you to wait fractionally longer before swinging. And the longer you wait before swinging, the better you "see" the ball. So steroids can give you an edge in overall batting average. At least that is what I've read.

I don't get it. Were the Marlins or the Angels named the "sportsman of the year" when they won it? What's the big deal -- just the stupid sentiment attached to the myth of a curse, or the team's patently false "lovable losers" image?

The Atlanta games used venues all throughout Georgia Oh sorry I forgot that Georgia was a country... and Utah too. I wasn't talking about the physical size of the place. More like the diffusion throughout an entire population base. E.g. when the USA hosted the World Cup in 1994, I believe they played in NY, Chicago, LA, Florida, Texas, DC, etc.

One big difference between the World Cup and the Olympics is the World Cup is staged in a whole country (or two) rather than a single city. Surely this lessens the problems of traffic, construction, crowd control, etc. However, I think the major difference is that FIFA is better organized and employs better consultants than the IOC and its national counterparts.

Then I thought of the time I was at the gym and overheard three of the regulars (2 men, 1 woman)loudly discussing their oral herpes. FYI, around 80-90% of American adults are infected with HSV-1, the virus that causes oral herpes. So it's not like the folks at your gym are a bunch of dirty perverts or something... Genital herpes is caused mostly by HSV-2. Only 25% of American adults are infected with HSV-2 (which is still a lot if you think about it).

So Lance is all riled up because of this drug investigation so he gets all pissy and decides that winning the Tour isn't enough -- no, he also has to ruin someone else's race for no good reason.

Don't be naive. Every cyclist in the Tour is probably doing something tricky with supplements or blood doping. It's just a matter of who's being smart about it versus those who are careless enough to get caught (where I suppose the expertise of the team doctors plays a role). Cycling has always been dirty (from cocaine to amphetamines to EPO to god-knows-what). But this doesn't reduce my enjoyment of watching the Tour, for some reason.
