Win one for the Gipper: "Let me be the first to suggest that the name of the relocated team should be the Washington Reagans." -- David Broder

Cute name, "the Reagans". Its was suggested on ESPN Radio (DP show) that the "expos" take on the name of the former Negro League team that used to play in DC. For the life of me, I can't remember what the name was. Maybe somebody can help me out here. Anyway it would be a nice tribute to Negro Leagues. Somthing that is long over due.

daddisamm: I'm guessing it's probably the Washington Black Senators your thinking of. The only other Washington Negro League team was the Washington Potomacs who only played for one season. On Topic: I'd really much rather see a team called the California Reagans. It works on so many levels: wrinkly, completely a memory from the 80's, and annoying as all get out.

The name was the Grays. And it wasn't technically DC's negro league team. They were actually from Homestead, PA, and known as The Homestead Grays. However, they played MANY games in DC, and called it their "home away from home." Since so many people who live and work in D.C. are not from here (elected officials, staff, students, etc.) this is appropriate. Coupled with the fact that a overwhelming majority of DC's residents are black, the name is a good suggestion. I also like the idea that gray is considered the place between black and white and therefore conjures up visions of bipartisanship (ha!) as well as racial harmony. I personally like the name Grays for all of the above reasons. But mostly I don't want to see Senators used because DC residnts don'thave their own senators like every other U.S. citizen. However, the way the Republicans are naming anything not nailed down after Ronald Reagan, it may just turn out to be DC's new name.

Call them the Washington Presidents then. Unless you're a partisan hack who's just looking to constantly slob the knob of the GOP.

I like the idea of immortalizing (until the next move) the Grays. I'm glad Broder wrote that tongue in cheek, or I'd have to have responded with a bit of Boston Vomit.

The Grays! thats it! Thanks for the further information about the Grays. This would be very appropriate.

Anything other than the Grays as a name would be a wasted opportunity to correct some of the crimesof the past. Also, it's a hella cool name. So I'm betting on them going with, oh I don't know, The Bills or something.

Win one for the Gipper "Let me be the first to suggest that the name of the relocated team should be the Washington Reagans." -- David Broder Let me be the first one to suggest that the name of the relocated team should be the Washington Contras. All troll aside, I think the team should go back to the old school Washington Senators.

chico, I just want to thank you, as the thought of a DC-based Little League team named "Minor Threat" has completely made my morning. If I had the fiscal means, I would sponser said team.

Washington D.C. themes: the jolly lobbyists, the cranky cronies, the whoring whores, the lying liars Expo ire themes: the 'we should be in puerto rico's, the 'never be a minority share holder's that's right folks. I've got tons more where those came from.
