Eckstein gets the MVP because he had the clutch hits in games 4 and 5 simple as that. :o)

Didn't say he wasn't a hard worker (as is probably most of the players on his team), didn't say he had a bad ws, said he was average, and average he is. From ESPN: Eckstein became the fourth shortstop to win a World Series MVP, joining Bucky Dent of the Yankees (1978), Alan Trammell of the Tigers (1984) and Derek Jeter of the Yankees (2000). Despite opening 0-for-10 in the series, Eckstein finished 8-for-12 and wound up hitting .364 (8-for-22), with three doubles, four runs batted in and three runs scored. He was the offensive catalyst of the last two games. In the Cards' 5-4 win in Game 4, Eckstein had all three of his doubles and drove in the winning run with two outs in the eighth inning when his drive to left-center ticked off the glove of a lunging Craig Monroe. In the Game 5 closer, Eckstein drove in the first run with an infield single, the third run with a grounder to short, and scored the final run after another infield single. Sounds a little better than average to me justgary, but maybe I'm wrong :o)

I for one am glad the Cardinals don't have the so called "home field advantage". The only way the Tigers get more games at home is if the series goes 7 games. Everyone who picked Detroit in 4 might want to make an adjustment after last noght :o)

What is one of the main signs of steroid use? Injuries, which Pujols seems to get from time to time. Not big injuries but muscle type injuries, because the steroids push the muscles too fast and cause them to strain or pull. That has pretty much been Pujols' injury M.O. for the past few years. When he goes down it's a strain or pull, for the most part. This is the first time Pujols has been on the disabled list in his 5 1/2-year Major League career. Do you know of some kind of link from steroids to plantar fasciitis?

Let's see....If you get caught cheating, your a cheater. If you don't get caught cheating, your a cheater that was good at not getting caught? What a load of crap! Some "fans" think if their driver doesn't win often but someone else does then the someone else MUST be cheating. As for the post, someone asks big brother a question about little brother kyle and somehow it gets twisted into Gordon cheated when Ray was his crewcheif, get over it! Gordon dominated for years because he was one of the best drivers, had one of the best crewcheifs, and was with one of the best teams in NASCAR.

if points are only taken only for infractions during the race, then why was Terry Labonte fined both $$$ and points for the illegal carb in qualifying? Points should have been taken... tidnoc, Here is the reason NASCAR gave. Pemberton said the difference between Knaus' penalty and the Hall of Fame penalty was Labonte's car had an illegal part. "When we lay our hands on that, that's when we generally go with points,'' he said. "In the case of [Johnson's car] it was all legal parts and pieces, the window and the jack bolt. :o)

huskerfan94 is right, NASCAR did the right thing by not taking away any points. If the driver cusses in an interview after a race and NASCAR has set a precedent with 2 other drivers before him then they take away points. If the car doesn't pass inspection after the race then they take away points. If the driver does something stupid during or after the race then they take away points. If the driver goes below the yellow line at Daytona to gain an advantage and pass someone (unless the car is red and sponsored by a beer made in St. Louis) then they are black flagged. :o)

The one with Gordon was a little of both, Gordon's car slid up the track and Stewart didn't let up on the gas. The other ones were vintage Tony. The confrontation with Kyle Busch was a mess, the replay showed Tony was the aggressor not Kyle, Tony checked up and was hit by Harvick (not Kevin's fault) and I think that is why NASCAR black-flagged Kyle (thinking Kyle was at fault) instead of Tony.

The thread is about Stewart saying someone was gonna die if the drivers keep driving the way they did in the shootout, not ''Do you like NASCAR'' Stay on topic please or don't post. Now on topic, I think the drivers were more agressive in the shootout (non-points) than they will be in the 500, at least till the last few laps, then look out! I personally thought Harry was a lousy announcer, he screwed up names and ''EVERTHING'' hit in the air by the Cubs was ''a DEEP fly ball''. If you watched the game on tv and listened to Harry on the radio, it was like 2 different games entirely. As to him personally, he was cheating with the bosses wife in St. Louis, not a good person in my book (if I write one) either.

You all like to bitch when someone is perceived as a ''homer'' here at Spofi but isn't it nice that you can be a ''hater'' all you want as long as you claim it is the refs you are mad at? Bullshit! There where bad calls but the Ben touchdown wasn't one, you couldn't see the end of the football on the replay because it was tucked under his arm. So unless that ball ended at the stitches the rest of the ball had to have broken the plane, thus they couldn't overturn the call on the field. How about the no call on the huge block in the back on Ben on the interception return by the Seahawks, I don't here any of you Steeler haters whining about that?

rodgerd makes a good point. Also, many of these athletes come from very poor backgrounds and would probably not have gotten a high paying job anyway. If they don't know how to save some of the big bucks for the future then they should find someone trustworthy to help them do it. They should take advantage of their sports scholarships and get a degree in something that will help them get a good paying job after sports.

I think what sharpshooter007 and some others on here are missing is the fact that we Steelers fans are not saying that the officials should get every call right in a game. What we are saying is the officials made the right call but then reversed it because of poor knowledge of the rule book. It is high time the NFL hired full time officials and hold them acountable for the BIG blown calls.
posted by Steeler_Fan at 02:57 PM on January 17, 2006
Wow, didn't think they would admit it. Maybe if the officials knew the rules they would do a better job on calls like this. Before anyone jumps me for what I just said, I know they have a tough job but, when you have a job that is scrutinized by millions on national television, I think you should get the call right when you have time to think it over (like they did in this instance).
