All kidding aside, I think they should take some of that money and help finance new stadiums. I don't think people who never go to the games should have to pay for one.

I just don't think Danica has the talent that usually goes along with all the hype she gets. Yes, she has made a few flashes in the racing world. I would have liked to seen her come out in kick ass when she started in the IRL in '05.
She hasn't really impressed me all that much. It just seems like no matter what race you are watching you have to hear about Danica Patrick (regardless if she is germane to the topic at hand or not. You know...like hearing about the patriots even though you are watching a hard fought battle between two NFC west teams...it's like they HAVE to talk about them relevant or not.
and by the way, there needs to be more Clay Matthews commercials on TV, you think they could have him do one with Houston's Brooks Reed?

She is hyped far beyond her abilitiies as a driver, IMHO. She get the bucks and the air time because she is a novelty in a sport that has been losing its "core" fan base for a while now. (as in the bottom line has gotten in the way of "racing"

fraze, I don't mean to single you out...but really? It has been 12 years. The justice system, however flawed, did its due process. You and all the others who always bring that up need to let it go. Hell, they don't hardly bring up Vick's dog fighting problems anymore.
I don't mean to make light of Lewis, Vick, or Big Ben but I look at it like this...when they die and stand at the Pearly Gates, Valhalla, Elysium, Imortality, etc, etc, what I or anyone else thought or or didn't think of them is immaterial. It is going to be how they lived their life. And what ever diety they believe in will know what they have/have not done.
It is also my opinion that people (not you specifically) who are constantly dragging those things up are lacking in their own character some way.
They are football players, admired for their skill on the field. You have to separate the player from the man. That big building in Canton, Ohio is the Pro FOOTBALL Hall of Fame, not the "these guys were so perfect they never did anything wrong" hall of fame.
And don't even get me started on the whole "role model" crap. Any parent who does not sit his/her child down and explain to them why it is not a good idea to idolize these men too much maybe needs to spend more time with their children.
This is just my opinion. Yes I know, they are like assholes...everybody has one.

Wasn't it Tiki Barber who said he was retiring (when he retired) while he could still get down on the floor to play with his children?
As much as I love the game, I cringe to think what shape players like Ray Lewis and Troy Polomalu will be in 5-10 years after they retire. Troy has had several concussions that have kept him out of the game, sometimes for several weeks. Ray has been healthier but even his brain gets rattled around in his skull every time he hits someone.

Wow! I didn't think my comment would generate such response.
I don't know Mr. Manning personally but I do think he seems like a decent person in any interviews I have seen of him. I don't get a reveng/payback or what ever kind of vibe from him. He was aware of the possibility of being let go probably for a long time. $28 million is a big chunk of the budget to tie up for someone who, if all circumstances aligned just right, got hit and could never walk again, let alone play football.*
I would say he likes to win, regardless of what team he is playing, but I just don't see where he would gain greater satisfaction from a victory over his former team as opposed to any other victory. A win is a win. Yes he is probably competitive, but I don't think it is in a "Nyah, nyah, my new team beat your Colts, Bob, go suck a big one!" kind of way.
I guess I am presuming to know his mind just like you guys who think he would especially savour a victory over the Colts with his new team. To each his own I guess.
bperk I agree with your statements. Indy would have been an "also ran" all those years if they hadn't signed Manning. Yes, he made the team competitive, brought the fans in, and being successful, got a lot of national exposure on national TV. But you got to admit, his personal rewards are pretty good too.
I like Peyton, loved watching him in Indy, even when he would play my beloved Steelers. I wish him the best in whatever he happens to decide to do.
*I had read a while back if Peyton got hit just the right way it could paralyze him or even be fatal. I don't know how likely that would happen, they could have been projecting a "worse case" scenario.
posted by steelergirl at 01:52 PM on March 08, 2012
It doesn't have to be Peyton hates Irsay, or wants to ram an unlubed dildo up his ass repeatedly.
However, I'd have to think if all things were equal, the chance to beat the guys who released you twice a season would be pretty tempting, and it's not like the Titans are a bad option to begin with.
posted by wfrazerjr at 06:18 PM on March 07
Really? Why would Manning want to payback or want to get even with a team that made him a multi-milliionaire, with who he had a fantastic career, has a Super Bowl ring, and will always be known as an Indianapolis Colt, even though he might play a few years for another team. Kinda like Hines Ward signing with Baltimore to pay back Pittsburgh for letting him go. It doesn't make sense. It is just business, not personal.
And if the Irsay hate is from when his father snuck the Colts out of Balitmore, it was 28 years ago. Let it go and stop projecting your feelings onto Manning. Just a thought.

Hines Ward had has a great career with Pittsburgh. And I am sad the Steelers didn't want to negotiate so he could stay. But as they say, all good things must come to an end.
He will always be a Pittsburgh Steeler no matter where he ends up in the NFL.
In the same vein, I don't see Polomalu wearing the Black and Gold much longer either. The Steelers are like any other team, when you are no longer a significant contributor, you are out.
