Holyfield determined to be five-times champion: Evander Holyfield fights Puerto Rico's Fres Oquendo at the Alamodome in San Antonio tonight in his 50th professional contest, on course for what many boxing insiders believe is a foolhardy and vainglorious attempt to become the first man to become a world champion for the fifth time.
"This is America, and part of America is about letting people do what they want to do. I want to fight. I will become the undisputed champion, and then I will retire and be happy."
Talk about obsession. Evander apparently won't be happy until he gets his head cracked before he retires.

Holyfield's always been boring, to me. When your biggest claim to fame is getting your ear bit off, maybe it's time to put boxing behind you.

The man's just trying to support his kids, which at this point make up roughly half the population of the state of Georgia.

When your biggest claim to fame is getting your ear bit off, .... you're kidding right? If I could make millions for a night of getting beat up, I'd take it too.

Holyfield was really a great champion in his day. It's partly Tyson's fault he never got his recognition. He fought everybody in the division, and whooped them all, and Tyson ducked him for years and years. I never knew why, I always figured Tyson would whup him. But Mike knew something I didn't. You couldn't bully Evander. Unlike Spinks, Holmes, and Bruno, Holyfield was UNAFRAID of Tyson. If they had fought at their peak, pre-rape conviction, I bet Holyfield would have won. There's something about boxers just being unable to let go. Sugar Ray, Ali, Foreman, it's that huge payday for one night of work that gets its hooks into you and won't let go. I don't care about this fight, won't watch it, I just hope Holyfield doesn't get hurt. If some promoter wants to shell out the bucks, and the docs clear him to fight, it's his business.

Throw in the towel already! Please don't say in 20 years this is going to happen again if you loose!

You don't get paid for the training, you get paid for the fight. But your point is taken.

Holyfield, who is unquestionably a wack-job, is in danger of totally wrecking a great career (not that he'd really care, but we boxing fans do). I've always thought that his is as underrated a career as Tyson's is overrated. Casual fans don't seem to give him as much credit as he deserves. This guy is a natural cruiserweight - or at best, light heavyweight. He's been fighting the big boys for decades. Unfortunately, at this point, it's about a decade too many.

When your biggest claim to fame is getting your ear bit off, .... you're kidding right? Not really. Personally, I always considered Holyfield, as a heavyweight, rather boring.

I barely even notice boxing anymore. Its got nothing on the UFC. I can't name a single title holder in boxing but I know pretty much all the title holders in UFC. The fights are better.
