Demand for Duke lacrosse gear soars: In the wake of publicity generated by the sexual assault scandal surrounding the Duke men's lacrosse team, sales of merchandise bearing the "Duke lacrosse" name and logo have skyrocketed. This is kinda surprising for me, I never saw Kobe's jersey sales or Lakers' jersey sales go up, and he was accused of rape as well.

"I don't think we're taking advantage of the situation," Craig said. Sure, dude.

Just goes to show, any publicity is good publicity.

Mike Tyson can't be on a Hockey Goalie mask, but this gear is selling like crazy. If these guys are convicted, should Duke lacrosse gear be inappropriate?

This case has brought out the millions of closet lacrosse fans who have been hiding for years. I guess they figure they can relate to Duke for some reason. I'm kidding.

Unlike Mike Tyson, the institution known as Duke does have some redeeming qualities.

Chicks dig a bad boy. So. Boys want to be perceived as being bad. Seems sort of obvious.

I remember a few years ago when I was in high-school (a little bit more than a few actually) when the racist skinhead kids were all wearing Duke hats because that KKK jerk-off David Duke was running for some elected position, he didn't win it thank god. Methinks this is more of the same, just different racist jerk-offs and different misogynistic kids.

hey now, doesn't anyone think that the sudden spike in Duke lacrosse apparel sales might just have something to do with the number 1 ranked Womens' team? After all, the gear just says Duke Lacrosse, not mens' or womens'....

Honestly elovrich, I never knew women played lacrosse. But you make a very good point, after all, everybody loves a winner. And for the sake of humanity, I hope you are right.

Women don't play lacrosse. They play some bastardized version of it that barely qualifies as a sport.

I worked with a guy whose most prized article of clothing was a Rae Carruth Panthers jersey.

Yes - this is from the MTV irony/sarcasm school of humour/fashion. Insensitivity is the new black. I'm sure I was doing something equally dumb ten years ago. I'm quite sure that it's not related at all to the women's success.

thanks guys, just another example of how tongue-in-cheek sarcasm doesn't translate well in the written medium. I am fairly certain also, that aside from perhaps a couple dozen extra hoodies going to those on campus and perhaps a handful of long-distance sales to those who aspire to play for the Lady Blue Devils in the future, that the increased sales have little to do with the success of the womens' team.
