The Pats should start charging a stud fee for every assistant Belichick brings to foal.

If that where the case, they'd be making a bundle every year. :)

Sort of makes me wonder why Kirk Ferentz is getting more play.

I would think they would want a more offensive mind? Not saying that Mangini isn't, I just dont know that much about him. Anyone know where he was at before this season?

I don't think the head coach is gonna matter. The Jets have much bigger problems.

Mangini has worked under Belichick for the last few years in the Patriots system. He did spend, I believe, 3 years with Parcels in the Jets organization. Romeo Crennell tried to take him to Cleveland with him and offered him more money, but he stayed. Doesn't anyone remember how fast Belichick ran from the Jets when he was handed the reigns from Parcels? Does anyone really think that Mangini would actually like going into the Jets organization? I do not know a whole lot about what kind of ship they are running down there, but I just see it as a very poor situation for anyone who might be just a little wet behind the ears. Just look at the last few coaches that have been there, and how quickly they get out. If Parcels can't win there and Edwards can't win there, and Belichick doesn't even want to be there, then there must be something wrong inside of the organization. This could be a bad choice for a possible up and coming coach. Look how long it took Belichick to get another Head Coaching job. Cleveland had bad management and it reflected on the coach. Do not leave the Patriots just yet Mangini. Get at least one more year under your belt of being a coordinator, then start looking.

Mangini does need at the very least another year under his belt. I hope he stays. BB will probably be giving him advice and probably to the extent of staying, not only cuz he needs him, but personal experience with that franchise.

Mangini's been everywhere Belichick has been since Cleveland. His first pro coaching job was with the Browns and he went on to join Belichick in both NY and NE. Based on both his association with Belichick and through his own acts, he's a very hot commodity on the coaching scene right now. And it's amazing how fast the Belichick coaching-tree is growing... Saban, Ferentz, Weis, Crennell, Mangini. Including himself, 15% of all pro coaching jobs next year are going to be filled by direct Belichick disciples. And possibly 3 in the AFC East alone.

And it's amazing how fast the Belichick coaching-tree is growing. Is it the Belichick tree, or is Belichick just a branch of the Parcells tree? Then again, looking at Belichick's coaching career, he could be branches of the Marchibroda, Forzano, Hudspeth, Miller, or Perkins trees as well.

I dont know if anyone's noticed but Belichick is one of Parcell's students as is tom coughlin, the dolphins coach and many others. Belichick is just a continuation of Parcells

Whether Belicheck has his own tree is debatable, however much less so when you take into consideration the past two years. He is definitely part of the larger Parcells tree. But with so many direct disciples coaching in the NFL or major college ranks, it's tough to argue with the fact that Belichick has directly trained many of today's up and comers. Don't think it would be appropriate to give Parcells credit for Weis, Crennel, Mangini, Rob Ryan, etc, who have gained their real fame coaching under Belichick at NE.

Belichick is just a continuation of Parcells Parcells' tree, maybe. If you're trying to suggest he's just a Xerox'd copy of The Tuna, tell us all the Super Bowls Parcells has won without BB. Michael Smith made a very good point on 'EEI this afternoon: whether you think Mangini needs seasoning or not, he should take the job if it's his. Ten years ago, Gary Kubiak was The Next Coach Hired. And now he's going to get a chance in Houston. While Mangini probably isn't ready to be a head coach, you need to take the chance while it's available. No sense being perfectly prepared for a chance no one will give you.

Seems to me like a Gruden in Oakland type of situation, albeit Gruden had some good players and managed a trip to the 'Bowl. Doesn't really matter what his record is, just coach the Jets decently for 3-4 years and move on. And as yerfatma said, avoid the Kubiak curse!

I think the Jets better get a tough, durable guy at QB before they go lookin' for a new head coach, 'cause if they have more injuries and inconsistent play at QB again this year, it won't matter who the coach is cause they'll have another bad year. And remember, they let Herm Edwards, a pretty good coach, get away way too cheap. They should've asked for more from KC than a 4th round pick, and if they were unwilling to give 'em anything more than that, shop him around to other teams. I'm sure they would've loved to have gotten a good coach such as Edwards. It's not like they're are'nt plenty of coaching vacancies. I think at the very least they should asked for more picks and maybe some cash so they could land some good players via the draft and free agency, cause they need to whatever they can to improve in a ridiculously tough AFC and an improving AFC East.

Any team that drafts Vince Young isn't going to have a true passing game for years. Just look what happened with the falcons and michael vick. You need a passing game to win it all. I like Vince as a college quarterback, but a quarterback who cant throw that well should be drafted in the late first round or second round, not at #3 to Tennesse. Vince should have stayed at college another year.
