Childress may go to Vikings head coach job..: Brad Childress the offensive guru of the Philadelphia Eagles may soon Be headcoach of the Minnesota Vikings. As if this past year wasn't a disaster for the Eagles, they must now search for a new offensive co-ordinator...but that could be a cloud with a silver lining, since the Eagles offense did not seem to bother most nfl teams this past season. On the other hand this appears to be a solid step for the Vikings who could once again become a factor in the nfl.
Considering the headline of the story you linked is "Vikes Name Eagles' Childress As New Coach," and the first line of the story reads (partially), "Eagles assistant Brad Childress was hired as coach of the Minnesota Vikings on Friday," I'd say the suspense is pretty much gone from the equation. It's bad enough when people comment on an article without actually reading it, but when the person who posts an article hasn't read it, what's the point in posting at all?

Childress is surely not getting an empty cupboard. The Vikings have some really good players. I still say that Tice want that bad of a coach. You could place some of the blame on the former owner-"Used Car Red"

I think Tice just wasn't head coaching material, at least not yet. If he goes somewhere else and works as a coordinator for a while, he could have a good second shot-- the guy clearly does know how to have a rapport with players (although that cut both ways; when the players think of the coach as a nice guy and not The Boss, they're more likely to scuttle the team's stadium efforts with boat orgies and yard-peeing). You're right that Childress will be getting some tools to work with, although I think there'll be some reshuffling as Wylf tries to remake the team. Red was definitely not good for the organization.

I think the Viking's will fare just fine, and I really hope they keep their defensive coordinator, because I've noticed a lot of times that even when the Viking's get burned on defense, their in position to make the play, they just miss tackles. Also I feel with a little more experience, Mike Tice will make a great head coach.

On topic, I think that he will be an asset to the Vikings (unfortunate for us Bears fans) at least with being a family man with what appears to be values. Standing up to T.O. says something for him about being able to handle problems with players off the field which is what this team seems to need.

Maybe the story link was updated and this isn't the original story he posted. If that is the case I would not have known that so I was unable to cut him some slack. It was not a personal attack.

Hopefully for Eagles fans, they will scrap the West coast offense. Childress should take Terrell Owens with him, if he is going to try and still run the same offense in Minnesota. The Eagles offense under Childress was only a threat for the 20 games TO played in it.

The article was updated shortly after I posted, so it seems most of the responders saw the update, not the original story. There seemed to be no doubt of the hiring, just some final details, so the update didn't change the essense of the post. Besides it is nice to be called a brilliant poster...

I think what the Vikings need is another Bud Grant. Someone who can whip them back into playing shape sort to say. Someone who can be seen as the coach and head honcho. Someone who will put their foot down on the shenanignas that have characterized the Vikings this year. The "little boat trip" comes to mind. They need a drill sargeant who will respect them so that they can respect him. Of course that could be said for many of the teams with fired head coaches.

It's (at least potentially) a step in the right direction. Pretty much any coach would be a marked improvement over Tice. The real question with the Vikings is what happens to their defense-- Ted Cottrell had finally banged something into shape, but the early consensus is that Childress would want to bring in all-new coordinators, which makes me worry that the defense would essentially be hitting the reset button.
