White Sox Manager Stirs Pride in Venezuela: "We love Ozzie," Simon Lopez said in one packed nightspot. "He plays a different baseball: Caribbean style."

Caribbean-style baseball ... that's just a euphemism for "brain dead", isn't it?

If "brain dead" means having the top hitters in baseball being caribbean players, then I guess so! (Pujols, Ramirez, Rodriguez, Ortiz, Abreu, etc.)

"I drive Kenny crazy with what I say in the paper, but we're on the same page," Guillen said. "[Williams and owner Jerry Reinsdorf] have to back me up. If they don't, I leave."
Gotta love the guy! I heard someone say he had "Brass Balls". The guy is not starving for money, so he can genuine and manage how he wants to without having to please the "boss". I just could never see him managing the Yankees, he would not take crap from Steinbrenner; he wouldn't last a week!

Joe Buck on PTI today said he thought Ozzie was the one person who genuinely meant it when saying he didn't care what the media said about him.

I love Ozzie but I still don't know what to make of him. I get the feeling that he has no idea what he's doing and that he's as surprised to find himself in this position as anybody (hence the retirement talks). At the same time, I can definitely see genius in him. Whatever the case, I hope he sticks around. He's one of the funnest manager/coaches to watch in pro sports.

I heard the same said about Einstein! Yah, but Einstein was a scrappy genius. Oh. Wait. I thought you said "Eckstein." Nevermind.

the top hitters in baseball being caribbean players they are? I thought Todd Helton(white), Michael Young(white), Derek Lee(black), Johnny Damon(white), Sean Casey(white)...all were in the top 5 in each league! So how is it that the top hitters are carribean????

See, if you're gonna troll, you have to do your homework. Todd Helton didn't have a very good year last year, Sean Casey hasn't been a top hitter in 5 years and you only named 5 people total, not 10.

That brain dead thing pissed me off enough so that I stopped listening to KNBR with the exception of baseball broadcasts. And I lost a lot of respect for Felipe Alou because of it too. I guess this fan really, really, really wanted to show Ozzie the love.

There's a good story on Dave Zirin's site/blog thingy about the Dominican Republic and the so-called MLB 'academies'. Sorry can't link it because I'm in an airport, but it's that edgeofsports whatchamacallit.
