I had to see the ad four times to understand what the hell Bernie Mac was saying. And I comprende ze urbane, no? I think the obvious and intentional comparison, that Salon completely missed, was to James Brown singing "The Old Landmark" in the Blues Brothers.

"Also, Bernie Mac is a comic genius." Really?

And for my actual comment... I'd grade the commercial lower than they do, somewhere in the C range. I like the idea, but I'm sure they pull it off well enough, a rarity for Nike/W&K. Lebron's debut ad, on the other hand, was terrific.

That should read "Dave Chappelle is a comic genius."

Damn, and all this time I thought Bernie Mac was talking about "cornfish".

I find it a little presumptious to equate LeBron with Jesus Christ ... or Michael Jordan. Same thing.

I've yet to see this commercial, but one of the prominent black leaders (who is also a quite successful politician in these parts) has been raising a hullaballoo about it this week, encouraging a boycott of Nike and whatnot.

Finally, a 'team' attribute is marketably chic.
