Leave it to the most vulnerable, least inspired looking team (the Celtics) to wreck the chances for four conference final sweeps.

Two minutes into last night's Golden Knights/Stars game, Jamie Benn goes full on Jamie Benn and gets a game misconduct. And surely this will be the time that the NHL's Dept of Player Safety does its job? LOL. That's funny.

The first eight or so minutes of that first period were an absolute shitshow, and it didn't get any better from there. Benn not having the guts to face the media and making his coach and players answer for him is an awful look. I'm assuming he'll be suspended for the rest of this series (so...tomorrow night) and I hope the franchise has a long, hard think this Summer about stripping the C off his sweater. That ain't any kind of Captain.

For Athletic subscribers that didn't watch the full game, Saad Yousuf has a quality rundown here.

I stumbled across this today in one or another of the places from which I gather my daily dose of 'talking head'. I had never heard of Gord Downey, nor was I aware of his deep affection for hockey. My taste in music is for that which has been composed at least 100 years ago. After reading the article, I am pushed toward looking for some of Downey's work so that I might gain more understanding of what he was saying.

Thank you for that link, Howard.

Gord Downie, lead singer, one of the songwriters of The Tragically Hip.
Gone far, far too soon.
The Hip's final concert (Gord with brain cancer at the time) was broadcast on CBC, no commercial interruptions,, roughly a third of Canadians watched the show.
Huge hockey fan (Bruins), was very good friends with Joe Thornton.
Still admired, adored in this country.
The Hip's had a lot of hockey related songs, my favourite, 50 Mission Cap
They played their final show at the arena in Kingston Ontario (where the band was from).
Still a regret that I didn't go to the London show, had tickets available to me, but I cheaped out.
My brother, working in Kingston in mid-late '80's, became a regular at their bar/club shows.
Couldn't stop talking about them, that's who introduced me to the band's music.

That Benn hit was a disgrace and it left the Stars in complete disarray. Now he's out two more games. Has anyone ever burned their C as badly as this in the NHL playoffs?

That Benn hit was a disgrace

It was, but the gaslighting explanation of "I fell and caught myself on my stick, which happened to be on Stone's jaw" was even more disgraceful. It's bad enough that you attempted to injure an opponent, cost your team a 5-minute major and multiple goals, and ultimately the game, but then you look right at a camera and tell everyone who watched the play that they didn't see what they plainly saw. "Hey hockey fans, you're a bunch of dumbasses." That guy can eat shit.

As soon as Fox called the violation in favor of Stone, a large number of Arizona residents rushed to Benn's defense.

Cross check denierism - a new front opens in the war on truth.
