SportsFilter NFL Pick 'Em, 2014 Edition: I've set up an NFL Weekly Pick 'Em group for SportsFilter on NFL.Com for the season, which begins Thursday night with Green Bay at Seattle. It's a straight-up league with no point spreads. The password to join is kickoff. This will be the first contest in the SportsFilter Cup, a year-long competition to find the best fantasy sports player in this site.

I checked the new user process and it looks like there's no phone requirement. If there are other concerns about running this on NFL.Com, let me know now.

I figured that a no-spread league would be more popular, but let me know if that's not the case.

The SportsFilter Cup may get a better name and a grand prize. The rules will be close to what grum@work proposed and finalized in the next few weeks. This contest will have a point multiplier of 5 since it requires weekly entries.

I was hoping to run this using SportsFilter code, like the World Cup, but I'm finishing a book on Minecraft programming in Java.

I think I know who the cup should be named after...

Not a great start. I enter my registration information, and it crashed out when I hit finished.

It did, however, seem to save the info as the link in the post title worked and took me to the group when I clicked it again.

That interface for choosing teams? Too fancy, by half.

I'm in as Krumrie's Floppy Leg. Look upon my historical 40% success rate, all ye mighty, and despair!

I think I'm in. Weird site.

I hope to do one better than last year.

Whoah! The administrator for MySpace is a part of our group?

...

Psych! It's just me!

I think I'm in also. It didn't ask me for a password but shows (I think) that I'm in the group SPORTSFILTER.

I keep looking for a Save button or some kind of confirmation that I picked things. There isn't one, is there?

Also, another vote here for the Jigger Statz Memorial Cup.

No save button, fooled me also (although that doesn't take much).
If you look at the info for the page it mentions picks are automatically frozen at a certain time before the game commences ... auto-submission, I assume.

How do I join the league? I registered on the site but the league search shows nothing for SportsFilter.

Click on the link in the post title, and it should take you directly to the group.

35 entries so far.

I'm in (I think), but the site sure was none too intuitive. Wanted a better team name, but it wouldn't let me use "Vulgar Rebellious Rabble". Alas.

If you are still having trouble joining the group, join the weekly pick 'em on NFL.Com anyway. That way you can be added later and your picks will count.

I managed to get into the group, but it doesn't show any score for me. (It shows 0 for everyone else.) I looked at my picks, and they were there as I left them. I guess that means I'm in the group, my picks, including tonight's game which is shown now as "locked", are in for all games, including tonight. I'm confused but amused.

I also think we should have a year-end "Costanza Trophy" as well. Eligible are those that entered every official SpoFi/Jigger Statz Cup tournament. It is calculated by simply reversing the scoring system (counting bottom 5 qualifiers in each tournament instead of top 5) and awarding the trophy to the highest point scorer.

Woo hoo! I'm in the lead!
