Chizik, Spaziani, Hope, O'Brien, Embree Fired: Five college coaches were fired Sunday, most notably Gene Chizik at Auburn. Two years ago, Chizik was hoisting a BCS championship trophy. Auburn lost every SEC game this year and finished 3-9. He was 33-19 overall and 15-17 in conference. Joining him in on the unemployment line are Boston College's Frank Spaziani (2-10 this year, 22-29 overall), Purdue's Danny Hope (6-6, 22-27), North Carolina State's Tom O'Brien (7-5, 40-35) and Colorado's Jon Embree (1-11, 4-21).

Gene Chizik out at Auburn

Yet another SEC coach bites the dust. So now UK, UT, AU are all looking for a new direction.

Will the sucess of aTm coach Kevin Sumlin effect who the SEC schools look to hire?

and some of the fan comments are hilarious.

It's not worth a link, but Tom O'Brien is no longer the head football coach at NC State. Who knows what other delusional chump they'll bring in to attempt to make the school a football school.
Speaking of Wolf Pack football, I wouldn't be surprised to see Mike Glennon playing on Sundays a year from now. There seems to be quite a few NFL teams in desperate straits when it comes to the QB position and he should be at least as good as Joe Flacco.

How does an N.C. State coach get fired for those win totals?

There are some really bad beats in the L column. I mean, some really terrible losses that should never have happened. This year's Carolina game chief among them.
Besides, I really think that NC State wants to be a perennial BCS school and it's obvious that TOB just wasn't the guy that could get them there.

This is the time of year when Chuck Neinas' phone starts to develop that red glow.

I don't know why NCSU thought O'Brien was the guy who could lead them to the big time. Maybe they were surprised that he was even interested, because he had been having decent enough success at BC.

In hindsight, O'Brien probably should have found a way to jockey himself into position for the Virginia job after Coach Welsh retired. That might have been the best fit for him in the long run. Better than either BC or NCSU.

Poor Coach Spaz - well liked at U.Va. as an assistant, but a head man he does not appear to be.

I don't know who the hell's going to coach Colorado. That program is a coach devouring mess. It's gotten to the point where they may even be looking at a coach from one of the Texas Redemption schools (where the Mike Prices and Larry Cokers go to regroup).

At some point, someone is going to put together a contract with a no-blonde, no-motorsickle clause and hire Bobby Petrino. Three electronic monitoring bracelets. One for each leg.

Having you been holding on to that line for a while? It's a good one.

With the firing of TOB, Debbie Yow, currently in her third academic year as NC State's Athletic Director, has fired her seventh (out of 23) varsity sport head coach.

My nomination for SpoFi "Post of the Year" if we have one.
