I like this take on the middle school through-the-line trick play that scored a touchdown: "That's a chickenshit play. It takes unfair advantage of your opponents' sportsmanship, i.e. his restraint from violence. Football is an extremely violent game, but it's played within boundaries; you're not just crushing anyone who touches the ball at anytime. Taking advantage like this isn't clever or cute, it's cheap."

I'd have to agree, although I'm not saying I wouldn't use it -- I just wouldn't have tried it in a middle school game. I think once you advance to the varsity level, all bets are pretty much off.

I also think it's a little horseshit to have the coach involved. Where's the line -- is it okay for a coach to scream at opposing players that someone's injured, or fake a heart attack?

Agreed.

Another confusing Chad issue in Florida.

Dont know if this is really a FPP article but it is an interesting idea the NHL has. My worry, you will take even more defense out of a defensless game. You know Orpik is not going to lay the wood to Sid or Malkin just like with other teammates around the league.

Wasn't that theoretically just as much of an issue when it was North America vs the World in years past (5 seasons from 1998-2002)?

I like the idea.

North America vs the World in years past

True, but thats part of the reason they did away with that and nwent back to east vs west. I like the idea i guess, just feel bad for the fat kid picked last

...and when the trick play doesn't fool everyone.

(The action takes place in the 1st 25 seconds of the clip.)

It reminds me of a blog I wanted to create a few days ago, but work pressure and raw apathy have shut it down:

"The Worst of the Best"

Basically, finding people who made all-star teams, halls of fame, greatest-of-all-time lists, or won major awards, and highlighting those that are the "worst" of the bunch.

Examples that stick in my craw:
- Joe Namath in the top 100 list and football hall of fame.
- Clark Gillies in the NHL hall of fame.
- Cuba Gooding Jr., Academy Award winner

I really like that idea. On a slightly different note, since when is Shanahan vice president of the NHL?

And his female counterpart, Marisa Tomei...

I guess you have never seen his classic performance in "Chill Factor" have you?

Craw sticker:

Barry Switzer, Super Bowl champion.

[I guess he could go in a blog that could be titled: "I can't believe (insert name here) has a ring and (insert name here) doesn't"].

My wife, who has seen Jerry Maguire at least one and a half times, would be the first to agree with the following statement about Cuba Gooding, Jr.:

"Posterior plus prosperity equals posterity."

Mr. Gooding Jr.'s filmography is a testament to his mantra:

"Are you paying me? I'll do it!"

grum, your asute analysis of Gooding's cinamatic career path is mindboggling.
