College Photographer Gets Iconic Shot: Sam Wolson, the photo editor of the University of Michigan's school paper, unwittingly got a shot of team quarterback Denard Robinson Saturday striking a perfect Heisman pose. "No one in their right mind can make that photo if they want to," said Wolson, whose photo went over the AP wire and has been picked up across the country.
Someone with better web skills than I should post a side-by-side. I think the leg in the air imagery comes from people doing a physical pseudo-replication of the move refusing/failing to go into the deep-knee forward stride/crouch.

Statue has the shoelaces tied. And is running on something other than stadium grass. Would not want to hazard a guess as to what it is.

Its actually kind of a better pose than the actual statue. Great sports photo, though.

The Heisman looks borderline anatomically impossible - or at least like the dude's only possible next move would be to fall over backwards.

What a great story! From the description, I thought the guy just did the Heisman pose that many players do better than most. But, no, this was just a great picture mid-play. It's funny that he didn't even realize what a great shot he had.

The straightarm to the face is actually one of the most enjoyable moments in football and rugby.

I will point out however that this wasn't actually taken this past Saturday, I think it was from 2 Saturdays ago when Michigan played Notre Dame. This past Saturday Mr. Heisman and the Wolverines were barely able to hold on against an FCS team in THE UMass Minutemen. Discolsure: Link is a self promotional item to a story I wrote

Like another Michigan player (Desmond Howard) did. *gag*

Why does everyone think that the Heisman Trophy statue has one leg in the air? It doesn't, but that's the mental image everyone has of the thing. Weird, huh?
Great photo, though.
