Eagles Trade McNabb to Redskins: The Washington Redskins have acquired quarterback Donovan McNabb from the Philadelphia Eagles for a second-round pick in the 2010 NFL draft and a fourth-round pick in 2011.

I suppose this means the 'Skins won't be trying to trade up to draft Bradford, as I'd heard rumored.

This is good one the one hand, because now Sam won't have to play in the swirling vortex of Washington.

But on the other, the prospect of a QB with Cherokee blood being drafted by the R******s would've had potential to be....interesting.

And the McNabb era ends. Surprised/bummed they traded him within the division. I was hoping to be able to root for whatever team he went to. Actually, I expect part of me will.

I feel this was a big mistake but hope I'm wrong.

I don't follow the Redskins, but I thought that Jason Campbell had a pretty good second half?

After giving the Eagle franchise the best years of his life, repeatedly injured but still leading the Eagles to four consecutive NFC East division championships (2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004), five NFC Championship Games (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2008), and one Super Bowl (Super Bowl XXXIX), the the Eagles' all-time leader in career wins, pass attempts, pass completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns gets traded to the Washington team with the horrible name.

Now if I'm Donovan, I'm one of two minds. After all my effort, all my pain, taking all the shit from the fans, and now this. Either I wait till the last minute and then retire to say a big fuck you to both teams.

Or, I call in the Shanahan Dream Team and tell them that I'll do whatever they want if they commit to beat the shit of the Eagles at both conference games this season.

He's my dynasty franchise QB. I don't know whether to cry or shit.

McNabb will never retire over this. He'll trust in Shanahan to put a good team on the field he can take to the playoffs this season or next.

As a Cowboys fan I'm glad I can still root against him within the division. He was a worthy opponent.

So, will the Redskins private workout with Jimmy Clausen April 15th be canceled? I hope both of Washington's games against Philadelphia go to Monday night.

My sentiments exactly. I couldn't have said it any better than this....except that he's still going to be a worthy opponent considering that he's in the same division as our 'Boys.

Best of luck to you Donovan. The fans of Philly owned you more than they gave you. Thanks for the memories, but here's one guy hoping you do well every game except against the Eagles (or when you could negatively impact their playoff hopes)

I knew when the Eagles picked up Vick that McNabb's days were numbered. Yes they tried to paint a picture of one big happy family but frankly the Eagles never really showed that they had confidence in McNabb, and getting Vick was just another example of how they were always looking for his replacement. Not that Vick will start but he was certainly brought in to provide more back up as I believe they always had plans to move McNabb out.

Other than Kolb being their heir apparent, you're spot on.

I'll never understand why McNabb didn't get more love from Philadelphia. If he had the career he had in DC, there would be a statue. He might still end up with a statue if he brings Washington out of the cellar of their division.

Is this a joke?

No joke. He was benched on several occasions and always got the blame when they fell short. Supposedly he was the one who suggested his buddy Vick be brought in. I always thought it was him trying to paint a pretty picture on something that must have been a huge insult to him. Maybe in his mind he felt they could both play in the backfield together. McNabb was only good when he posed a running threat. As the injuries mounted it became more apparent that he was never going to be the pocket passer they had hoped. It seems Vick was brought in to be that running threat at QB they once had with McNabb. McNabbs was at his best when his protection was breaking down and he was running for his life. He did make plays but teams that rely on that rarely succeed as the heroics of a scrambling QB are a sign of deeper problems on the offensive line and blocking scheme.

I blame it all on Andy Reid who never seemed to be able to develop a great offensive scheme to utilize McNabb properly. Instead relying on Westbrook to be a running receiver. Basically throw a short pass and let him go. That is why TO had problems with McNabb, as it seemed McNabb just could not get the ball there with any reliability. The Eagles regularly underachieved with their talent because of the coach and his inability to utilize McNabb's skill set better.

What is really hilarious is that Jason Campbell learned of this trade from a reporter.

Define "several" and name them. I don't remember any of that. I remember McNabb being hurt for half a season in 2005 and 2006, but benched? That happened against the Ravens. Tell me which others.

McNabb was only good when he posed a running threat.

When would you say that stopped being true? He hasn't had a QB Rating under 85 since 2003.

TO played all of 21 games over two years in Philadelphia. And what's interesting is his totals from those years. 21 games played, 124 rec for 1963 yds and 20 TDs. Average that out to his 121 game career in SF and his 47 game career in DAL and you'll see that those 21 games in Philly were some of his most productive. TO also had more yards per game and receptions per game in those two years with Ried and McNabb than with any other team.

McNabb wasn't the problem.

OK, I knew this sounded familiar.

1. We've established that he was benched once, on 11/23/08, in Baltimore. Since you know of other times, please do let us know.

2. Reid is known for taking the blame for himself when they fall short. It became so predictable that it's hard to watch his post-game press conferences without laughing or throwing something (because while he takes the blame, he never changes). The Eagles organization just did not publicly blame McNabb for its failures. It's not true.

On the contrary, the Eagles have given McNabb the tools he's asked for, starting with TO. The Kolb pick and the Vick signing may speak to the team's concern over his age and injury history, but the starting job was never really in doubt until January 2010.
