SpoFi Field Trip: The WNBA playoffs will be under way very shortly, and there's no way the Connecticut Sun aren't gonna bring it home this year...and no way I'm not gonna be there. Anyone interested in catching a playoff game or two at Mohegan Sun?

im from houston but i don't keep up with the wnba. whatever happened to the supposed dynasty that they talked about a few years back, here?

Houston is in it but unless LA has an injury situation I don't know about, I'm guessing Houston won't make it past the first round. As to what happened to the dynasty...parity and age.

I've got my Detroit Shock playoff tickets. Hopefully they'll get by Indy and your squad gets by the Mystics and I can see the 2 tops teams in the East square off in the Palace. I recently got a press pass for the Shock vs. Sparks show down at the Mier Womens Basketball Classic. Fantastic game, these are some of the finest athlete's the world has to offer. Seeing a HOF'er like Leslie square off against Riley was a highlight of my summer. Detroit has a strong squad and a possible playoff matchup with the Sun and their All Star Taj McWilliams-Franklin and the shooting prowess of Ashja Jones. Wow, 12 wins in a row for the Sun. Should be a battle for the East. See ya in Detroit! Here's a link to some game action pics of the Shock vs Sparks.

Hey, I wasnt trying to be rude, I just wouldnt go meet with someone I dont know. Anyways, the Sun are impressive this year- can't wait to go gamble..... I mean go watch some games.

LBB, I am definitely interested in going. My work schedule looking forward is brutal, but once you pick a date I can try to make it work.

I'd be up for this, depending on the day. I'm unemployed and poor right now, but I hope that will change. And I do know you well enough to sit closer to you than Mr. Rgay.

I just wouldnt go meet with someone I dont know but if you never go meet someone you don't know, how the hell will you ever get to know them?

If you never talk to strangers, you will never make any friends.

If at least 1 of you would consider the red sox as possibly being bi-curious, maybe he'd consider going.

I'd go, but at some point I'd probably refer to Diana Taurasi as 'ol' horseface', and then things might go downhill from there...

posted by tieguy at 08:54 AM on August 12, 2006

Now now, tieguy. When Taurasi has her hair up, as she does for games, it does do unfortunate things to her nose...but when she lets her hair down, she's a babe. A 47-point-scoring babe at that. Despite which, she won't be in the playoffs, but oh well. chico and BPP, sounds like a plan, or at least a proto-plan. I'll post again when the playoff schedules are set. I'm tempted to hold back and go for the final since, as I said, I figure ain't no way the Sun won't make it (boy, be embarrassing to lose that bet, wouldn't it?). Anyone else who's interested, g'head and chime in! And Mohegan Sun is a trip if you've never been there.

If there is one sport that I would, even should, follow, it's the WNBA. I write about it from an academic perspective quite often. I stay in touch with what's going on in that league exclusively via the web (e.g., the Latasha Byears thread really renewed my interest). But I have not been able to catch even one game on the tele. So, if I hit the Lotto tonight, I'll book my seat for the full series! Otherwise, I'll just have to do my best to actually catch some of the games on the tube.

I'd love to go but I'm boycotting the WNBA until Becky Hammond returns my phone calls.

Best of luck with that, Hater ;-) The proto-schedule is here -- looks like the Sun got a home game on Sunday, and possibly another on Tuesday (for those watching at home, the schedule also has TV coverage). Honestly, and apologies to any Mystics fans, I doubt the Sun won't make it to the conference championships. What do y'all think - go now, or wait?

Ya know, if Chico knows how to get to Mohegan sun via public transportation (I haven't driven or owned a car since the Jackie Robinson incident) I might go. Do they charter buses out of NYC like they do for Atlantic City? I don't think anything is gay but I probably won't be anyone's friend until the Makers Mark starts flowing. I have access to Liberty tickets, but no one to go with maybe next season we could organize a field trip.

Do they charter buses out of NYC like they do for Atlantic City? I think they'd charter a bus from your front door if you were willing to go there and lose money. Bus info here. The buses are cheap and you get a free restaurant coupon. My sister the nun rides the Gambler Bus when she goes to visit my brother (he lives near MS). She makes quite an impression.

there's no way the connecticutt Sun aren't going to bring it home this year... Detroit took care of some business vs the Sun Sunday....... Shock 88 Sun 65. Me thinks there's no way the Shock aren't bringing it home.... a special kudo's for the 11,500 fans who saw Cheryl Ford become the WNBA's alltime single season rebound record holder. Way to go .......... C'ya at the Palace!

I have a similar deal as HATER, except with Lauren Jackson. (I'm holding out a (faint, but still) hope for a Storm/Sun final.) And there are plenty of buses there from here. If I can get a job this week, I'm totally in.

posted by chicobangs at 04:25 PM on August 14, 2006

My accent might be more effective with Ms Jackson, chico. I, too, am hoping for a Storm season, but 'fraid I won't be able to join you. Have fun.

What do y'all think - go now, or wait? I couldn't go Sunday, but I might be able to go Tuesday. I'm okay with waiting, but I'm not convinced the Sun take this in a walk. Could be a good series.

May I borrow your thread for a second? If any of you guys will be in central Pennsylvania (I'm looking at you SummersEve) the last week of September, I will be at: Washington Capitals vs. New Jersey Devils Sun, Sep 24, 2006 05:00 PM at the Giant Center in Hershey, PA. It's a preseason game so tickets are only $35 at the most. So if anyone wants to get together for a brewsky or a game of street hockey (I'm looking at you now HATER 187), I have the whole week off, so let me know.
