NFL 2006 Pick 'Em Playoffs, FINAL RESULTS:
The final results are in! Smithers is our winner overall with 43 points, while grum@work and willthrill72 demonstrated almost supernatural futility to take home the Costanza in a tie for last with 16 points. Full write-up and banners/plaques can be found on the LEADERBOARD.

Holy cow, I can't believe that Bill Cowher and I both finally won something!! Can I get a dancing banana?! Thanks for doing all of this Hal...it was lots of fun. And god bless your little gambling heart for introducing the parlay in week 2.

Meaningless statistic to inflate own accomplishment: I'm the only player to score eight or more points each week.

Fifth! But I win the southern hemisphere divisional championship. And the prize for highest score without knowing a thing about the game. Terimah kasih, Hal.

Er, sixth. Sorry, can't count, as I used to be an applied mathematician.

I'd like to say I'm proud of consistent futility (4 points each week), but I ain't. For a brief moment there, it looked like I was going to nail the game exactly. Seattle had the ball in the 4th quarter and trailed 14-10. If they score the touchdown and hang on, my prediction would have been perfect (Seattle, Under, Spread, Kicker). Nevertheless, I intend to "hang" that plaque in my user page as a reminder to myself whenever I think I know what the hell I'm talking about...

I'm so pissed at not winning the Costanza when I tried so hard to grab it!

I'm so pissed at trying to not win the Costanza when it turned out I was so close! See what "doing your best" does, kids? No one remembers who came in second last! Smithers, congratulations. That was a good run.

Smithers, congratulations. That was a good run. Agreed. As a guy looking up from the other end, I'm impressed. If he reversed his picks on all the options, would he have ended up lower than me and willthrill72?

And word to owlhouse, who did his continent proud. Makes me want to look at joining a footy pool next season, especially if AFL coverage in the States becomes a little more consistent.

Congrats smithers. Those plaques look great, by the way. Good job d00ds. And a big tip o' the hat to you hal. Thanks for commiseratin' this excellent pool.

Congratulations, Smithers, Grum and Willthrill. Thanks Hal, it was fun. I always suck, just never enough to draw any attention to myself. It's taken me far in life, with the least amount of effort.

I'm so pissed at trying to not win the Costanza when it turned out I was so close! You protected the integrity of the game, Chico. That has to be worth something, and if it is, you should auction it on EBay.
posted by rcade at 02:14 PM on February 06, 2006
Probably not. You can't eat it, or sleep in it, or get sympathy sex from it on the night the restraining order becomes official. But you know, I would totally trade my integrity for one of those cool Pope Hats!

especially if AFL coverage in the States becomes a little more consistent. Not sure if this will happen since FoxSoccerChannel was the primary source the last few years. Fun to watch, for sure.

Thanks Hal for a great tourney. Much fun. You all can't believe how incredibly difficult it is to score so abysmally and actually try to make the correct picks. I thought for sure I as going to screw it all up and actually score more than grum. Whew! Now I have an embarassing question (like winning the Costanza isn't embarassing enough!). How do I get my plaque on my profile page? I can't wait to display it for all to see, but I am COMPLETELY computer illiterate and can't for the life of me figure out how to get it there. Thanks again.

FoxSoccerChannel was the primary source
Yep, although, I sometimes catch trimmed-down games on, I believe, the MHz network which, amazingly, now has two channels on my cable provider. Still no ESPN2 in HD, though :-(.posted by redsnare at 04:24 PM on February 06, 2006
Grum work your new trophy looks splendid alongside those two Fantasy Hockey ones. It doesn't feel good being worse than the collective but not being bad enough for the Costanza. *Sigh*

MSG carries the hour-long weekly AFL wrapup show, but not at the same time every week. If I got Tivo, that would be easier to follow. Fox Soccer Channel makes following the EPL especially real easy. I feel comfortable enough to go for the Costanza (or the Gromit or the whatever) in that pool next year, maybe.

Hal You are the Commish of Commish's. The top Banana head huncho, much thanks. Congrats go out to Smithers. Awesome picks! Grum+Will, way to go low! As for me, well, I even suck at being awful.

Better than AFL, I have plans for organising a cricket pool based on next (southern) summer's Ashes series in Australia. Stay tuned.

I'd like to thank everyone for playing- I hope you had as much fun playing as I did being Commish this year! I'm also proud to have introduced the first instance of what I hope will be a tradition here at SpoFi, of awarding the Costanza trophy to the worst player in the field each year. Thanks go to gpsm who spent much time designing the final Costanza plaque, and to ProSam who contributed some great designs as well. The mighty dusted also has his classic winning banner design used for yet another SpoFi Fantasy playoffs contest. Our winners should feel proud to hoist these elegant and beautiful trophies in their user profile pages. For those who've won this year, please copy the images in my profile page and host them yourselves- I'm currently hosting those images on my personal computer, so it's not a long-term solution. Alternately, to our much admired pantheon of Admins, I think the SpoFi community would be grateful if you could host the myriad of awards banners here on the site itself. I am still available to write a "Hall Of Fame" .cfm page if you're willing to assist me in getting it implemented. :)
