Fantasy Hockey Week 3. The Arrogant Champs always seem to regain the top stop just in time for the weekly update. Three weeks, and three times on top for them. Goals, and fights, and waiver controversies inside...

I'm just pacing myself.

I think this is where everyone starts bad-mouthing me again for being in the lead. Since I've arrived early, I'll get everyone revved up. [dons flame-resistant suit] You all suck and should just give up. That should do it.

posted by grum@work at 07:08 AM on October 30, 2003

First of all, grum licks balls and will not win again this year. Now that that's out of the way, we should probably discuss what we should do with Hack the Bone's waived players.

Guerin's hatty last night put me up at fourth. Sleep with one eye open folks...although I could stand for Steve Rucchin to pull his head out of his ass and start producing. HACK THE BONE: Identify yourself! Christ. As for distributing the players, I say reverse order of standings. If grum gets Glen Murray I'm going to shit. That's all I can say on the subject.

posted by Succa at 10:14 AM on October 30, 2003

Oh wow, I didn't see bonehead's boner. Put me on record saying WHAT AN IDIOT and thank you if you go with succa's idea of distributing players.

posted by jasonspaceman at 10:33 AM on October 30, 2003

Well, I'm not in favor of the reverse order of standings thing, but only for selfish reasons. I can't deny that it's probably the fairest way to do it. We'll have to see what Commishioner Qbert has to say about all this. And isn't there some way we can figure out who HTB is? Come on, we're all nerds here. A scooby snack for whoever uncovers the first clue.

His/her username on Yahoo is dwmf1983. No information in the profile. Searching for users on Spofi gives me nothing. If I search for "dw", I get one user: gooch (not sure why), who only signed up two weeks ago. Going over the old Locker Room threads about the NHL pool this year and last year, everyone is accounted for. Sounds like this Hack the Bone person is an outsider. May I suggest the "ban" button? He's had plenty of time to explain his actions.

posted by Succa at 12:56 PM on October 30, 2003

reverse order is definitely the way to go. didn't we figure out who Hack was in the last update thread? for some reason i thought it was resolved. and watch out for the transaction maniac....if Hasek gets carted off, cujo gets his job back... and Bert, fight or score already....

posted by garfield at 12:57 PM on October 30, 2003

I second the 'ban' notion.

posted by garfield at 01:02 PM on October 30, 2003

Explanation is in the thread, I just happened to pop over here in case you had been discussing it here as well. I again apologize for the snaffoo however I decided it was best for a non-participating, no longer SpoFi member.

posted by therev at 01:14 PM on October 30, 2003

thanks for the explanation. hope its nothing we did.

posted by garfield at 01:39 PM on October 30, 2003

Well, that's that. Makes sense, Rev. Don't take the badmouthing personally.

posted by Samsonov14 at 01:47 PM on October 30, 2003

Sorry about calling you an idiot rev. I will do 100 Hail Marys tonight. I thought it was just some passerby creating havok. Did I miss something, why are you leaving? I'm always the last to know.

Here's the list of Halloween treats. What are we gonna do? 15 players, 15 teams left...coincidence? We could have everyone claim one player, with ties going to the player with lower team ranking.

posted by Succa at 03:39 PM on October 30, 2003

Frazer said he'd do a webcam lottery. I'm not sure it's a great idea, but it would be fun to write stuff like "take it off" when he starts his webcam up.

posted by Samsonov14 at 04:00 PM on October 30, 2003

Why not just have each player starting at the bottom (as of today's standings) claim a player and so on. It's some work, but maybe an update here could prompt the next player up to make his choice?

posted by trox at 04:08 PM on October 30, 2003

we've got a slight problem. mookieproof hasn't touched his team since Oct 14, 2:38 pm EDT.

posted by garfield at 04:25 PM on October 30, 2003

Shhh. Thats the only reason I'm not in dead last.

That and the fact a drunk monkey from Anaheim constructed my roster.

posted by lilnemo at 04:28 PM on October 30, 2003

any idea what happened to mookieproof? this is beginning to piss me off. 2 MIAs and the season isn't a month old....arg!!!!

posted by garfield at 04:40 PM on October 30, 2003

I'm pretty sure it's par for the course in fantasy sports, Garf. We've got 16 teams, you know. But yeah, it ain't cool.

posted by Samsonov14 at 05:26 PM on October 30, 2003

The way things look, I can see myself passing on my "pick" of HTB's players. Kevin Weekes? No thanks. But that's what I get for being in first. Again.

posted by grum@work at 06:20 PM on October 30, 2003

One slight issue: if the Hack the Bone team is stacked with PIM guys now, then that means that he'll be getting a lot of unfair points in that department (I say this after getting more than 50PIM today). If you are going to fill your team, fill it up with cut players in the minor leagues, and retirees -- like Svehla and Gilmour and Rob Ray.

Okay, commish statutes... I believe the reverse order thing is the best. BUT, and this is in no way selfish, the season is way too young to have valid standings. As you can see up there, people can win or lose 7 spots in a single week. My take is to have the contraction draft run at the middle of the season, when the standings will have settled down (i.e. Kovalchuk/Czerkawski will have cooled off, Bertuzzi/Iginla will have kickstarted their season, etc.). What do you think? Thanks to therev for giving me back access to his roster. I will reconstruct his original lineup until we have agreed on the terms for this mini-draft. All players will be left on the bench, though. Other points to consider: even without any players, Hack The Bone's team can screw up the rate stats standings (SH%, GAA). What do we do about this? Thanks everyone for your input. Again, sorry to see you go, therev.

i don't know the full story of what's going on with hack the bone's team ... but have you considered the possibility of seeing if another spofite could adopt the team??? it may not work out because of the yahoo sign in thing, but if it could somehow, there's prolly someone who would wanna fill in. (i would if somebody else with better hockey knowledge didnt step forward.)

Dano, sammy and I were talking about this last night with 86. Weedy expressed interest as well. I'm not sure if its possible to transfer ownership, but if we could, that would be super cool. Any word from mookieproof?

posted by garfield at 08:39 AM on October 31, 2003

If we could get 86 and Weedy to replace the MIAs, we'd be right back in business. Commishioner Qbert?

Urr.. Commissioner. Knew that looked weird.

Hey guys, Handing teams over would be a really swell idea. I'm not sure I can do it, though. I'll look it up and let you know.

posted by qbert72 at 11:05 AM on October 31, 2003

I'm in. Just let me know if it's possible and if so, what I have to do.

posted by 86 at 03:44 PM on October 31, 2003

Cool. I hope we can work this. In other news, Grum still sucks. You're going down, Canadian. And you too, Qbert. After next week all we're going to be hearing from you is *&@#! And I say Garfield sucks, but I think the standings speak for themselves. 86, in the event that you are able to get a team, your team will also suck. Basically, you all suck. Except you Succa. I still have to pay off our bet from last year.

posted by Samsonov14 at 05:12 PM on October 31, 2003

Okay, here's the skinny. I can't hand a team to a different Yahoo! member. I don't think the manager himself can do this. Our only hope for Hack the Bone's resurrection is for therev to graciously provide his/her login info to another Spofite willing to take the team over, be it 86 or WeedyMcSmokey. therev, are you still listening? From your end, is this possible in any way?

posted by qbert72 at 07:28 PM on October 31, 2003

Samsonov, get your lousy ass off my couch! (And go buy some beer.) Why'd you dillholes let Sammy get Leetch? Qbert, I'll do whatever I have to... just keep me posted in these threads.

Jason/I can't skate: Philippe Boucher was on Hack the Bone's roster before the snafu occured. I wish to have him back on his original roster before we start distributing these players or we hand over the team to a new manager. Please release him as quickly as possible. 86: We need therev's collaboration for you to inherit his team. We haven't heard from him yet. I don't have an email address. Does anybody here have one? therev will have to accept giving 86 his Yahoo! login info. Thanks!

Have we decided anything yet? Well, we're waiting for an answer from our Missing In Action guys: therev and mookieproof. As far as I know, we need them to give their Yahoo login info to the guys that will be taking the teams over. I would totally understand if they refused to do so. therev last visited the fantasy site November 1st, when this suggestion was mentioned, and he/she hasn't answered. How long should we wait before we decide to do an internal mini-draft?

posted by qbert72 at 09:58 PM on November 03, 2003

How about we wait until next week's update? If no word from therev and mookiproof by then, we'll move forward on dividing the spoils...
