The Commonwealth Games started today. Its the biggest sporting event ever held in Britain and features the old Empire countries - so you get the Aussies, Canadians and, of course, the Niue team - but no Team USA, Russia etc. The question is - who'll be watching?

Rio moves to Manchester for a record £30m... is he worth it?

New season, new kits... Liverpool's is quite bad (what's with those cuffs?), Leeds' is okay I suppose, if a tad boring, and Newcastle's does the job fine. They're all disappointingly understated and tastefull really. Where are all the terrible, ugly and downright disgusting kits now?

FIFA's World Cup All-Stars! Is this the world's greatest team? Probably not (there's no Rio Ferdinand for a start) but at least they've recognised some of the real stars of the tournament such as El Hadji Diouf and Rustu Recber.

World Cup Warrior, a fun little game from the BBC World Cup website, is available to play now. Beats their Winter Olympics snowboarding game (Ace Powder's Mountain Mayhem) by a country mile.

Despite being sceptical about how much fun this would be to watch from my worn-out world cup sports-sofa I actually really enjoyed the commonwealth games. Especially as England won loads for once (but still couldn't top those darn Aussies!) . Maybe we'd have a chance if the Australian states competed as seperate nations.

Perhaps they should have it the year before the Olympics as a sort of warm-up competition. then it might have a bit more significance - a bit like the situation with the BAFTAs and the OSCARS(tm).

The next few races will possibly be more exiting - Shumie has the championship in the bag and isn't going to be trying as hard. We might even see more than one overtaking attempt per race!

Brazil wins!!!

Ronaldo's going to be the one on the front pages tommorow for sure - as Gary Lineker said "he may floss his teeth with rope, but he's a great player!". In the end it just seemed right that Brazil should win it. In the other final it ended 4-0 and Montserrat are officially the worst team in the world.

Perhaps its going to come from the World Wrestling Federation school of "sport"?

argh! Brazil looking dangerous at the end of the first half...

Brazil v Turkey.

Brazil 2 Turkey 2, with a Brazilian golden goal to finish the match. It'd be a pity if the final was between the two 'old powers' though, what with all the suprises thus far.

Spain robbed by linesman

I am getting increasingly worried that there is a FIFA plot to let The Germans win the World Cup :)
