Why come back and put yourself through all that speculation again? Crazy! And from what I heard it's not about the money, he's not taking any. I would like to see him race again, but only if he is in top condition. I agree with JJ anything less would be sad.

Sic: I believe that 86 meant that the cyclists that test positive are punished. Obviously there are more guys out there that think and do believe they can get away with cheating. But if you are a stage winner or one of the guys in the yellow, green, polka dot or white jersey you are tested every day right after the race (before they are presented on stage). I was surprised it was Beltran, but heard this morning that he is 37 and so that may have played a large part of him doping. He had no way of winning and so he probably figured he could get away with it. And how can you not watch the Tour when Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwin call the race? They make it exciting and the phrases they use to describe things (completely and utterly) are a riot! Dviking: do you know if any of Armstrong's teammates were caught while riding with him? I believe they were caught when they were riding with other teams. If that is the case, then Armstrong would have no knowledge. As far as I know, no US Postal or Discovery rider was dropped for doping and they were heavily tested during the Tour because Armstrong was always suspect.

As for living in OKC, it's really a great place to live. The Hornet players seemed to like OKC when they were here for 2 seasons.

Debo270, just to clarify, he did climb it old school but he did use oxygen: "I removed my oxygen mask to take some pictures. It wasn't enough just to get to the top. We had to get back with the evidence. Fifteen minutes later we began the descent." I believe it usually only the Sherpas that do not use oxygen, although I do believe someone else has done it without - but I could be wrong.

I was looking at his skating on youtube and I had forgotten how good he really was. Proof: 1990 World's - he blew a triple axel and overcame that and threw in a triple toe loop (i think) for the hell of it. He moved from 5th to win a bronze. He truly was the "Bowman the Showman."

It was a measure of his personal modesty, and of his commitment to his colleagues." How many of us would be this generous and not brag about being the first. RIP Sir Edmund.

Something has got to change. Ohio State should not have been there in the title game this year and I'm saying that as a Buckeye fan. I knew that they were not ready and I was praying that they wouldn't go. LSU won, but I'm still not convinced that they should have been there either. And cjets is right the BCS game has become boring. I hate the fact that is almost a week later than the other bcs bowl games and on a freakin' Monday night. I hate the fact that it was on FOX and I was going to scream if they did the "jumper" replay thing again. Can someone please fix this freakin' problem? Please?

Excessive Celebration penalties, especially in the college game, are a disgrace. They seem not to be called with any consistency, and they are far too Draconian a punishment for what is at worst a very minor sin. Unless the celebration is taunting or results in a delay of the game, let it be. This is supposed to be a game where emotion is a factor, and people want to have fun. Players cannot be turned into robots. I agree with this on a college level. I can't remember but I think it was WVU who made a touchdown in the bowl game and the guy did taunt OU. I may have the wrong game, but regardless, that was a good penalty call. But come on, some of these college players will never make another TD - let them have a little fun. On some of the other rules: I have never got holding. What I think it is never seems to be what the officials think. I know, I could be wrong. Someone give me a good definition of it. It seems like so many of these rules or penalities have a very fine line on definition.

I was shopping for a new t.v. last night (the other died) and they were showing the Michigan/Appalachian St. game and I just had to smile - wow, what a freakin' weird football season. But I gotta say that I loved the unpreditability of it. It kept me on my toes and you just knew that who you thought would win - wouldn't. It was great. I don't mind having a playoff, but it has to be done right. I would hate to see the Michigan/Ohio State rivalry or any other be diminished.

• Allowing players to keep textbooks for resale, a practice that occurs at some other schools. • Waiving a $5 charge for high school coaches to attend Mountaineers games. • Having authority over distribution of sideline passes. Kendrick said Rodriguez "negotiated" one for his wife, Rita. • Having authority to allocate funds from the 1100 Club for coaches. • A committment to increase pay for his assistant coaches. • Additional money to pay graduate assistants. • Hiring an additional recruiting assistant. This is why he left? If WVU was making an honest effort to do these things, what's his beef? Am I missing something here? B10, I see what you are saying and I may have been wrong to compare Rod and Carr. Carr has class.
posted by lil'red at 04:49 PM on December 18, 2007
B10, what I meant was Carr could have said no to coaching the team through the bowl game, but didn't. Yes, this could be his swan song if Michigan wins, but if they lose, it could be the same as Rodriguez coaching WVu and losing...he was already retired/resigned. So in that case what is the difference. As a WVU player, I would want the consistency of the 'coach' being there and yes dyams, he is in a catch-22, but he put himself in that situation. I still think colleges should not recruit a coach until after the bowl season. It is not fair to the players and fans.
posted by lil'red at 10:09 AM on December 18, 2007
What do you all think about that Rodriguez isn't going to coach WVU in the bowl game? As a player I think it would suck. Carr is going to coach the Wolverines, so what's the difference?
posted by lil'red at 08:00 AM on December 18, 2007
I think that colleges should not be allowed to talk to a potential coach before the bowl season is over. Coaches should not retire or seek other employment until the bowls are over especially if their team is playing in any bowl. It's a distraction that the players don't need.

T.C. I found this to explain how it isn't double jeopardy. "However, stretching the bounds of logic, the courts have decided that since the state and federal governments are separate sovereigns and therefore successive prosecutions based on the same underlying conduct do not violate the Double Jeopardy Clause if the prosecutions are brought by separate sovereigns." It may seem unfair and there have been several recent decisions by the Courts (Supreme or otherwise) that have upheld this definition.

I'm not definite, but I do know as of yesterday, there was no signature. So I kind of agree with B-2 Spirit, I'm waiting to see what happens on January 8. holden, have you forgotten how Miles got to LSU? He screwed over Oklahoma State by saying (before the Alamo Bowl against Ohio State) that he wasn't interested in LSU and would not leave Oklahoma State. I believe that right after he lost the Alamo Bowl (almost a blow out) he announced that he was going to LSU. No, he hasn't done anything similar to Saban.

To be honest, I knew that the Bucks wouldn't get to the championship game this season. At least I was hoping. We aren't ready. posted by lil'red at 10:22 AM on November 12, 2007
This game is even more important now, since both OSU & Michigan lost yesterday. I think this is one of the best rivalries ever. You don't root for the other side even in Bowl games when they are playing the Pac-10 or SEC. Coaches on both side have been fired because they lost to one or the other one too many times. Michigan has been known to spoil a perfect season for OSU. As a Buckeye fan, we can lose to Illinois or Florida, but to lose to Michigan is to lose face for an entire year. This is bragging rights folks. This is a game where you are revered or scorned at your respective schools for decades - win or lose. So tune in Saturday, it should be a great one!

I must say that the Rose Bowl showed just how good USC is. As for Michigan, do they just choke on the big games? I was expecting more of them. Also as for Carr, I would think his days are numbered. He hasn't won a bowl game in a while and has only beaten Tressel's Buckeyes once in 5 years. Look what happened to Minnesota's coach, he was fired after losing badly to Texas Tech and it was his only season below .500.

I agree with YYM. I think the winner of the Rose Bowl could and should be preseason #1. Ohio State is losing too many good players to maintain their #1 ranking into next season. And no split title. SummersEve: I believe so or at least it has been in the past. It is almost as if it is an unwritten rule. I know when Armstrong won a few years ago, his lead was only about 61 seconds and the last stage was celebratory. The teams pass around the champagne during the final stage long before they get into Paris, so it's become a tradition on the last stage. Less than 45 or 30 seconds - can't answer. But tomorrow's time trial will be awesome. Don't miss it.
posted by lil'red at 11:30 AM on July 21, 2006
SummersEve: Not a dumb question. Usually the race is decided on the stage before the last ride into Paris (barring any crashes involving the leaders). So the last stage is usually celebratory. The other riders usually let the leader and their team lead them into Paris. The last few years the last stage has been for the sprinters to decide who is the top sprinter. McEwen is 80 points ahead of the next guy, so I don't know if there will be a "race" for the sprinters jersey on Sunday or not. But it's always an honor to win the stage into Paris.
