Re tennis, it's been greatly improved by replay. Arguments and controversies over line calls are nearly gone. There are many fewer point and game penalties. Now they just need a timer between points...

At seven minutes left I turned the game off, piddled around, then decided I'd endure the 20+ point blowout.
Was a pleasant surprise...

80% of interceptions due to bad routes? Seems way high.
Cool read though.

Congratulations to the Saints and what a game by Brees. 32/39, two touchdowns, no interceptions, rating of 114.5.

I consider five or ten seconds before the snap to be part of the game--with the quarterback frantically calling plays and changes, the defense showing and pulling back blitzes, players in motion, etc. There's a lot going on.

The car deserves the award more than the driver. At least with the horse they voted for the thing that provides all the power.

"The Colts, to that point, had scored touchdowns on 4/14 drives, or 28.6% of the times they held the ball. Only one drive was less than two minutes in length. I understand that letting Peyton have the ball back is a scary thing, but statistically, they were more likely to stop him than not from 70 yards out."
You're assuming that all drives are equal. The previous drive before the 4th and 2 was the sub two minute drive, and it was obvious watching it that the Patriots' defense was gassed.

Neato. The borders of the various games are more irregular than I though they'd be. Like in week one the CBS game dips into north-central Arkansas, but not north-west.

Federer's had a clear rival since 2005, Nadal. Nadal is the guy who's kept Federer from winning the French, who'd played Federer the closest at Wimbledon, and he's the only guy on tour with a significantly favorable win/loss ratio against Federer.

Very curious. I sorta-kinda like Notre Dame, but I've avoided watching them on TV the last decade or so because they've become average, sometimes not even that. I don't see the point anymore.

Nadal's backhand has really improved. Opponents used to target it and that strategy used to pay off with some frequency. That's not true anymore, especially on clay.

Sounds good to me. Flopping is one of the worst aspects of the NBA. If they stick to very clear cases it should work.

Not surprising at all. The MLB is an organization that believes the rules do not apply to them. They already have the antitrust exemption. They persistently try to deny fair-use exists. They disable legally downloaded videos with no recourse.

While Nadal was the 2 seed few people expected him to get to the final. He did well to get to the semis. Tsonga played a spectacular match against Nadal, by far the best of his career. The match he played is the definition of In The Zone. It's still available on espn360, I highly recommend watching it there or getting a torrent of it. Federer played a slightly below average match, for him, and Djokovic made him pay for it. It was their USO match reversed--this time Djokovic won the big points, and his nerves held up.

"Yeah, what would be? There have been 34 Super Bowl champions since the last undefeated season. They give one of those trophies away every friggin' year, fergodsake. If you really want to deny that you've seen something special, that's fine. You're just wrong." Whoever wins the Superbowl makes history. Each one of those 34 Superbowl victories is more important than any undefeated regular season. And I didn't say the Patriots season wasn't special. I think it was. I said not historic and not much more impressive than the undefeated Dolphins team. And I'm quite right about that.

Great season for the Patriots but I don't see 16-0 as particularly historic. Two more regular-season wins than the Dolphins team doesn't mean much in my book. In pro football, winning the Superbowl is what is remembered and is what counts. Regular-season? Pfft.
