Sporting News goes back in time.: In the off season, Sporting News are recreating the 1986 baseball season with Strat-O-Matic Baseball, and reporting it all. Teams are managed by various baseball luminaries. (Curt Schilling for example.)
I can't believe I wasn't tapped to manage the Cardinals.

Great stuff. You know your team has gotten off to a hot start when former players rush the field: "The excitement was so contagious that Rudy Law, who was released by Chicago in the offseason and signed with the Kansas City Royals, was seen running onto the field to join the festivities as well." The 1986 Rangers are a great young scrappy team that can win it all. Let this serve as public notice that Manager Adam Morris is on a very short leash.

Maybe someone should set up a fantasy league for this. Off topic: I'm in a Mitchell Report Pool and the suspense is killing me.

"As a pitcher you are supposed to never think triple, stop at second they say, but my off-season workout with the Jane Fonda tapes paid dividends." claimed Gross From Doug Glanville's Manager Journal. (Archives)

Interesting to me that Gary Dell'Abate and Jon Hein from the Howard Stern Show are both managers. Curious how they got involved. The site doesn't seem to report how the managers were selected. Anyone have any info?

Dear Sporting News, I'd like to introduce you to RSS Feed. He's a pretty cool guy - very reliable media man, would definitely help you reach your fans. Plus, he's dead sexy. Just thought you might get along. P.S. Watch out for Schilling, he'll talk your ear off. Awesome concept, especially with the variety of managers

I'm surprised Marty McFly and Dr. Emmitt L. Brown weren't named as managers.

I know it's early, but this could be the year that the Red Sox finally win the World Series. Sure, the breaks will have to go their way, but I still think 1986 could really be their year!

Dear Mr. Mat Gleason: If the Angels should make the AL Championship Series against the Red Sox please consider having Mike Witt pitch a complete game, no matter what Rich Gedman hits against him. Thank you, Dodger Fan (but still upset)
