Movie to feature gay Toronto Maple Leaf: The NHL and Toronto have given permission to use uniforms, etc. for the movie. Tom Cavanagh, former Ed star, will play the Leaf. No Love Monkey jokes, please.
So many jokes, so little time. Can't wait for GayLeafFilter to kick in.

The article says the story's about how the gay ex-player adopts "a budding queen of an 11-year-old boy." That seems like the more controversial aspect of the movie. An 11-year-old has a gay awakening?

An 11-year-old has a gay awakening? Why, when did it happen to you? OOOH, BURN! Not that there's anything wrong with that.

That seems like the more controversial aspect of the movie. An 11-year-old has a gay awakening? Never trust a movie synopsis written by a sports reporter. I'd hold out - it may not be accurate. However, I'm not so sure that an 11-year having a sexual identity crisis is terribly uncommon. But seriously, if the Leafs refused to participate because of the gay content, in this town? Now THAT would be controversial.

Excellent choice of actor. He's great in whatever does (especially as JD's brother in "Scrubs"). As for gay awakening... My guess is it'll probably be a short scene at the start of when the kid first realises he's gay.

There must not be much known about that movie because IMDB has nothing on it.

IMDB fucking sucks though. I remember when you could count on that place to be THE BEST place for movie info. Now it's just a fucking piece of shit used to shill Amazon.

Man, what is this country coming too! We'll bring down our own built empire. No such thing as Morales anymore. It's a Shame.

Aren't all the Maple Leafs gay?As far as I know, only Gaye Stewart. On a different tangent, there seems to be more happiness/gayness in Leafland this year as opposed to recent times. Aren't synonyms wonderful.

No such thing as Morales anymore I beg to differ.

Did anybody catch that the player's partner was the team's lawyer? I think the guy would be sitting pretty protected. I wonder if he was shooting or recieving?

The NHL & the Leafs knew that truly hilarious threads like this one would appear when they announced this, which is why it's 2006 and the North American leagues are only now officially recognizing that gay people exist. Good on the NHL for looking forward, and to my Leafs for stepping up. I won't pick the plot apart until I see this. One other thing: 11 years old is a perfectly normal age to start thinking about your own sexuality. It's way too early to go & do anything about it, but once your body even begins the internal changes of puberty, thinking about that stuff is natural and right. If there's a problem with the story, that ain't it.

I'm with chico. Also, 11 years old is about the time when boys look around for role models. There are currently very few 'out' sportsmen who fulfill this function for young gay people. Maybe the story line covers that side of things.

It's not Aki Berg? Seriously, good on the Leafs and the NHL for not balking at this. It's not reality, but it's at least positive to know the league has enough common sense to not be threatened by the portrayal of a gay hockey player. Sean Avery is another story.
