How about those Fremont Athletics?: Just so the new Santa Clara 49ers don't get singled out for pulling up roots, the Oakland A's will announce next week their plans to build the new Cisco Field in Fremont, about 20 miles away from their current stadium, the Oakland Coliseum. Fun fact: Fans will have to park elsewhere and get shuttled in because the stadium will be surrounded by shopping malls.

what produtive thing has anything in California in sports done in the last 4 years? but its cool they're rebuilding in many ways.

They should move to Kezar Stadium as well.

You know, I like the sound of the Oakland A's but I'm pretty damned happy that they're moving a helluva lot closer. Driving up to Oaktown takes for-freaking-ever. And I always run into some real assholes at the Coliseum. Fremont A's sounds stupid though. Like Free Monty's which makes me think of free strip shows or something which I guess wouldn't really be a bad thing.

I'm not sure I understand what Lionsfan20 means (hell, I don't understand that question period), but Oakland has won their division 2 times in the last 4 years and finished 2nd the other 2 years. They play in an awful stadium and it would be good for them to have one designed for baseball.

In response to Lionsfan20, I recall there's some college football team in the LA area that has played decently over the past few years....

"Lionsfan20" - that name speaks for itself

"Lionsfan20" - that name speaks for itself Well, not really. Is this Lionsfan20 a male or a female? I get the "Lionsfan" part of the user name, but what's up with the "20?" Is this the 20th time a SportsFilter user registered the name "Lionsfan?" I don't recall seeing "Lionsfan1" through "Lionsfan19." Do they exist? If so, where are they? Did this Lionsfan20 have something to do with their disappearance? Just where did this Lionsfan20 learn how to disappear people so effectively? Perhaps they worked for the Argentine secret police during the Dirty Wars era of that country's history? I also wonder how many steaks this Lionsfan20 eats per day. Maybe three? What do you think? 5? That's a lot of steak, but we all know how much those Argentine cowboys love their steak? If he's a cowboy, how comes he's not "Cowboysfan20?"

Some of you guys have been a hoot, but I'd bet that the "20" actually refers the the Lem Barney/Billy Sims/Barry Sanders history that goes with the digits. Back to the original subject, it occurs to me that New York has a lot of pro teams playing in the next STATE! At least these guys are staying in Cali.

Not really, owlhouse. We just like our shopping even more than driving.

We just like our shopping even more than driving. Given your traffic patterns, is it any wonder why?
