Key to Hockey Goalie Success Discovered: Scientists in Canada have discovered the exact spots hockey goalies need to watch to successfully block shots. I can think of a few goalies that might need to read this...

This article basically deals with the inital shot (which most goalies stop anyway) In no way does it provide a better technique to stop rebounds, one-timers, deflections, ect.

if scientists say that you only need to look at certain spots then let one of the scientisits that came up with this thorey or whatever you want to call it get into goalie pads and get in net during a nhl game and see how good they can do

I couldn't agree more Shaun. Also notice that the coaches picked the shooters. So there is no indication of the caliber of the speed or type of shot these hamsters with mini-cams on there heads were spouting there expertise.

To discount this study because it doesn't cover the alpha and omega of stopping pucks is, pardon the phrase, shortsighted. This isn't going to turn any old hamster with a minicam on there[sic] head into the next Luongo (or Alex Auld, even), but this does look like the first step in a series of studies that might show how the brain works when dealing with things that happen faster than the eye can follow. Any advances in hockey would be a side benefit. And yes, you need to train yourself to do this, and no, not all of this training is conscious. One more thing: sometimes scientists test stuff you think you know, just to see if it's true. You can step off them about that any time.

If you want to get a shutout every game just get a goalie that weights 1500 pounds :) JK

That won't do it, your-money. Unless their ankles are 6 feet wide, Konishiki himself won't be big enough to help you.

Key to Hockey Goalie Success Discovered Step one: If you're not born in Quebec, try to be born in Finland.

If you want to get a shutout every game just get a goalie that weights 1500 pounds :) I believe Charles Wang was looking into this. Seriously.

So basically this article boils down to: "Keep your eye on the puck." Thanks, science!
