Terps overcome big deficit, top Duke in OT for first title: A team that was ranked #4 in the final poll before the tournament and got no respect, wins the National Championship. With 2 freshmen, 2 sophmores, and 1 junior, Maryland will be tough to beat next year. Fear the Turtle!

One of my pet peeves in sports is when athletes or teams claim they get no respect. Maryland was ranked fourth. How is that not respect?

I was wondering the same thing rcade. No one picked them to get to the finals. After the game was over, the announcers kept saying Maryland didn't know they weren't suppose to be there. How do you not think you're suppose to be there when you beat UNC twice (only losses they had all year), and Duke once? You're 33-4 and going to play for the National Championship and still, no one believes in you. They believe now.

I'm glad Duke lost. They looked like they were very cocky. It is nice to see a different team win (though Duke has not won any national championships).

rcade: Because before the tournament started Maryland was ranked THIRD in the nation, had beaten Duke and UNC, had only lost to teams that were ranked #1 at the time the game was played (Tennessee, Duke, Duke, UNC), and yet were still only given a #2 seed, behind Ohio State. That's not a lot of respect. All the talk was about how Duke was going to add a women's title to go with Coach K's 3 for the men. Well, it was the Terrapins who added a women's title to go with coach Williams' title in 2002. FEAR THE TURTLE !!!!! Go Maryland!

Don't forget terrapin, Maryland was a #2, 2 seed behind Tennessee. It was funny how everyone was on the Terp's band wagon after the game and for next season. I wonder how long that will last?

I had no rooting interest, but I have to say, this was one hell of a game.
