After Bill Parcells changed his mind and today's Marvin Lewis debacle, is Tampa Bay now the second-worst place to coach an NFL team?

I'm sitting by my phone waiting for a call. I swear, Tony Dungy has to be dying laughing up in Indy.

who clearly are seeking a higher-profile coach . . . Slim pickin's. Let's see, John Madden, Don Shula, and Tom Landry are still alive, right? (Side note: I've always thought Howie Long would make a good coach.)

Let's not forget that they kicked Dungy to the curb rather quickly, considering the improvement the team made under his watch. Also add in the fact that their quest for Parcells meant they missed a chance at the local-boy Spurrier. Oh, and two of their best players, Sapp and K. Johnson, are outspoken and at odds. Yeah, doesn't sound fun.

The Bucs will suck next year as punishment for getting rid of Dungy. They had a defense-oriented coach with proven head coaching experience who routinely took them to the playoffs, and they replaced him with a defense-oriented coach with no head coaching experience. The FNG is screwed because the Bucs will dump him next year when they make a play for Kid Coach John Gruden. Speaking of Gruden, I think Oakland's a worse place to coach than Dallas, and Al Davis has guaranteed a couple of years of mediocrity by not getting Gruden signed. I would say that I hope that the Vikings will make a play for Gruden next year, but that would be way too smart a move for them to actually make.

I'm a Cowboys fan, so I wish it were not true, but Dallas replaced Oakland as the worst place to coach after Switzer was fired. When you're settling for Chan Gailey and then Dave Campo, it's clear that no one with any reputation at all wants the job. They're scared to take it. Jones used to be able to compensate for his meddling by being one of the league's big spenders. Now, the salary cap prevents that. Work for Jones and you get a control freak owner who insists on making calls as significant as the team's first-round draft pick. If not for him, the Cowboys would've picked Kendrell Bell last year, a frontrunner for rookie of the year this past season.

rcade: let's not bash the cowboys today, although they richly deserve it for their boneheaded (mis)management since jerry took over. instead, let's concentrate on the fact that tampa has actually made the cowboys look competent. that's a tough act that only the redskins have been able to pull off in recent years. oh, and joe gibbs is still available. seriously. he's way better than gruden, and the buc's wouldn't even have to give up any draft pics.

Lewis may be coming to Washington! Marvin Lewis, opposite Steve Spurrier. Maybe now we could beat Dallas.

Is Gibbs looking for a job?
