A-Rod launches official site with chat: First overall draft pick, 40-40 club member, gold glove winner, american league mvp, fastest to 400 home runs, 9 time all-star, looks good in pinstripes, looks better in a suit, you wish you had his teeth. Check out the alex timeline, ask alex a question, admire his charity work, ponder his journal, or watch him play Ol' Saint Nick, the man does it all and makes it look easy (just make sure you support his corporate partners).

How does an individual who makes that much money per year have corporate partners? I always thought that if you had *that* much money, you wouldn't need to need to whore yourself anymore. I guess I'm just naive like that.

I don't see why so many people hate on A-Rod (except Rangers fans). Read his responses, classy guy.

I don't hate him. I'm just calling him a whore.

corporate partners = endorsements. what's the problem with that? a lot of rich athletes have them. if you were in A-Rod's situation, you're telling me you wouldn't except endorsments?

Am I supposed to be impressed??

He's a whore, in a Cheap Trick kind of way. I wouldn't "accept" endorsements either. har har /grammar nazi

I can not wait to read A-Rods journal and get to know how he feels about his relationship with Atari.

I still think A-Rod is a big phony... a selfish dude who has his PR machinery constantly working on his Mr. Nice Guy image. I think he secretly kills puppies in his off hours. /cynicism That said, I'm glad to see that he's doing charity work

Maybe, if some people are "lucky," A-Rod will start getting DUI arrests, hitting women, fathering illegitimate children, taking illegal drugs, etc. so they'll have an actual reason not to like the guy and can quit digging so hard for reasons to not like him. Just because he has a big contract he's supposed to ignore any other money-making offers that come his way? I agree completely with goddam's comment above. Anyone would do the exact same thing if they had the opportunity. If all professional athletes went about their business, as well as their private lives, like A-Rod, we might be able to start calling athletes "role models" for young people again. That being said, if he all of a sudden does make some sort of mistake in his life, I'm not going to be one of the people who jumps up and starts bashing the guy. Only all of the "perfect" individuals will be submitting those posts.

It's funny that his favorite move is Wal Street, from where we get this quote.

I wonder if Dan Patrick will read A-rods journal on the air like he does with Barry Bond's on-line journal. That would be neat! lol

Heck, I've always like A-Rod, corporate whore or not. Love him or hate him, at least he's had the deceny to PLAY...unlike a certain other "superstar" we could name...

People still like Greg Maddux and he did all those things simultaneously while punching his mother.

Yeah, but cl, she deserved it! She hit a homer off of him.

Great player, seems like a nice guy. Slick website fits imho. I'll always remember him for slapping at the ball while running to first, but that has more to with being a redsox fan than anything else.

This is all fine and well, but how long do you think he will keep it up? Or better yet, have someone else do it for him?

Are you suggesting his 1337 HTML skillz will someday desert him?

posted by yerfatma at 11:47 AM on September 09, 2005

He will move to a different website when they offer him more money.

posted by mayerkyl at 11:48 AM on September 09, 2005

tina, the site is produced by mlb, so he really doesn't have to do a whole lot regarding updates to the site. jeter's site is done the same way. i'm sure there are other players around the league with similar sites that are done through the league.

Are you suggesting his 1337 HTML skillz will someday desert him? I think manny has a better grip on flash design. This is all fine and well, but how long do you think he will keep it up? Or better yet, have someone else do it for him? They're just cookie cutter sites. I'm surprised arod just got one up.

Mr. Rodriguez, I am a huge fan and I was wondering who is your closest friend in baseball? [ no one on the Yankees ]

I can tell you that he is trying to charge $79.95 for his 1994 fleer update rookie card on his site. It only lists at $40.00 in the new Beckett Baseball Card Plus book.

I'm STILL trying to get someone here to tell me what Greg Maddux has really done. Or is it all part of a big inside joke I'm not in on?

posted by ajaffe at 11:08 AM on September 11, 2005

Yes. There's a previous thread, but I'm not digging it up.

posted by yerfatma at 11:45 AM on September 11, 2005

I know. I asked in that one as well. Ach, never mind...

posted by ajaffe at 12:03 PM on September 11, 2005

Recently, Maddux has begun manufacturing a form of cocaine mixed with meth and ecstasy that is virtually undetectable by sniffer dogs, x-rays, or body cavity searches. From what I understand, he'll stop at nothing less than the absolute domination of the human race. Plus, he smacked his own mother on national television, in front of the President of the United States. Disgraceful.

posted by The_Black_Hand at 04:32 PM on September 11, 2005

Hating Arod has become the new black - just a little too fashionable for my tastes. This seems especially glaring when Maddux's rampant cannibalism is constantly overlooked. I mean how old do you think that little girl was? 8, maybe 9?
