"We're all just guys." : Mike Ditka says he's seriously contemplating a run for the U.S. Senate.

(He says a lot of other things, too, all about as simple-minded and oafish as you'd anticipate. "You can't be too extreme here, and you can't be too extreme to the other side." Strike me blind if I lie.)

Ugh. This guy is as smart as my left toe and he is thinking about running? Jesus, and I though Gov. Arnold was bad.

If Ditka ran for office, he'd win by 110% to -45%. And that's just with half the precincts reporting!

Gov. Rod Blagojevich, a Chicago Democrat, said Monday that he thought Barack Obama would win no matter who he faced. The article doesn't specify, sadly, but it's safe to assume that Obama is the Dem nominee, right? Barthwell did a bang up job as Drug Czar (then again, what drug czar hasn't in recent memory). Sounds like Ditka's opponents are both winners. If Ditka ran for office, he'd win by 110% to -45%. And that's just with half the precincts reporting! "Tiny Ditka: 63 Giants: 17"

You can't be too extreme here, and you can't be too extreme to the other side. The jokes write themselves.

Ditka is the sacraficial lamb, the GOP in Illinois is a god awful mess. Obama is the Dem running for Senate in Illinois, he is well funded, well liked, and is the best prospect the Dems have to be the first black President. Most fans of Ditka have died of a polish sausage induced heart attack, so the GOP can't count on their votes.

Ditka is the sacraficial lamb, the GOP in Illinois is a god awful mess. Well, if Ditka runs, I think the Illinois GOP would actually try to win the thing. IMHO, only him and possibly Jim Edgar have any chance of winning the race for GOP entering at such a late stage, simply due to name recognition. Obama is the Dem running for Senate in Illinois, he is well funded, well liked, and is the best prospect the Dems have to be the first black President. I think Harold Ford, Jr. would have something to say about that.

If Mike Ditka runs, will he stop talking about his 4 hour erections?

"Tiny Ditka: 63 Giants: 17" Ditka versus God in a golf game. Only Ditka uses an assortment of garden tools and is blindfolded. Bear's team bus in the Indianapolis 500...

If Mike Ditka runs, will he stop talking about his 4 hour erections? Probably not. Remember Bob Dole? Bob Dole, Mike Ditka, Dick Cheney...decorum shmecorum, it's a GOP thang!

... the best prospect the Dems have to be the first black President I'd put that title on this guy.

You all that say Ford is the frontrunner to be the first black President don't know that Obama has a primetime speaking slot at this year's dem national convention, it's his coming out party. Ford does not have the resume that Obama has, and Obama is the strongest public speaker the Dems have other then Slick Willie.

Maybe so, but based on what I know, Ford is much more of a moderate, is from the south, and is also very charismatic, all essential qualities of a Presidential candidate. Plus, do you really think someone with a name like Barak Obama (which is to say, doesn't sound "American") really has a serious chance of winning a national election in the near future?

My instinct says no. He needs a name like Hank Speed. Or (my personal favorite) Lance Uppercut.

Update: Ditka pulls out of race. Ditka said his prior committments will keep him on the sidelines. On Wednesday he met with Virginia Sen. George Allen, and said he was surprised and disappointed to learn the kind of restrictions U.S. Senators face on outside income and outside business interests. Guess he still wants to talk about dick pills on TV.

The mainstream media wil make a BIG FREAKING FUSS over Barak Obama claiming a 'star is born' and other such democratic propaganda. Too bad none of it is true. They've tried the same thing with Michigan Gov Jennifer Granaholm. She's speaking at the convention and no doubt will be called a 'very popular' governor when nothing could be further from the truth. I was at a Pistons/Pacers playoff game (one of the very few sporting events I witnessed in person) and she was put on camera and the audience spontaneously went into HEAVY boo mode. I read all over the media when that happened to vPresident Dick Cheney at a baseball game, but not a peep about Granholm being crushed. She looked not only bummed but SHOCKED at the boos too. They QUICKLY cut away to Bob Seger or someone!
