Move over, Steve Bartman: The Dallas Morning News identifies the child-squashing foul ball chaser as Matt Starr, a "married, 28-year-old landscaper and former youth minister."
When does something turn from feel-good story to a weird media obsession? Right about now.

Hmmmm...I think Bart Starr might be trying to tell us something. Steve Bartman and Matt Starr

Mother Theresa could rise from the grave and wax nostalgic about the time this guy single-handedly prevented a busload of pediatric lepers from plunging over a cliff...he's still the cock that almost seriously injured a 4 year old to get a $3 ball...

It wouldn't surprise me if Matt Starr himself logged on to Spofi and defended himself. Stranger things have happened when rcade posts a story.

I could understand if it was Barry Bonds' 500th homer....but it was a foul ball! Starr is a moron for going the extra mile on that one. It would have been funnier if the mother took her tirade a little further and tried to pry the ball from Starr's hands.

Foul Ball Jerk = MC 900 Foot Jesus?

(other than MC 900 Ft Jesus' real name being Mark Griffin. But he is from Dallas... anyway, moving on....)

Ladies and gentlemen, our long national nightmare has come to an end.

This whole ordeal is so overblown. Hopefully this apology ends it. The guy refused to give the kid a ball, not a kidney. I was for it during the game and the initial aftermath, but now that shows like Good Morning America have jumped on board and awarded this kid with Mets gear and other assorted freebies for their own gain, I need to jump off the feel good bus. Who's with me?

I need to jump off the feel good bus. I've already popped the emergency exit in the back and jumped out. If you tuck and roll, it doesn't hurt too much.

In addition to the article, the Morning News also has a cute little graphic on Foul Ball Etiquette. (Registration may be required for those) Not to defend Starr at all, but I think the media frenzy around this kid has kind of gotten out of hand. I mean, the family was on Good Morning America for crying out loud, and people are bending over backwards to give this kid things above and beyond the bats and balls he got in Arlington. When does something turn from feel-good story to a weird media obsession?
