The monkey has made her picks!:
Maggie has once again made her NHL playoff picks. Famous for her psychic ability to pick the Anaheim Mighty Ducks to get to the Stanley Cup finals (defying all the experts each round), she's now a part of the annual playoff preview show. Thankfully, she's picked the Leafs in the first round. Whew!

I want a re-spin! The wheel didn't go all the way around! Stupid monkey.

I like the fact that she (and 5 of the 6 experts) picked the Stars. Stupid Turco suspension cost us at least home ice advantage...*grumbles*.

That's one smart monkey. Even picked the Predators' upset.

I'm not surprised. Leafs fans span the globe, and they all worship a monkey. Maybe someday evolution will catch up with them. [Insert Leafs-average-age joke here.]

Maybe someday the Sens will evolve and beat the Leafs in the playoffs. Nah, evolution passed them by.

I swear to God, if Nashville beats the Wings, I'm gonna commit monkeycide...

Gord Miller must be smoking something bad if he actually thinks the Islanders will beat Tampa. I'm surprised that everyone is picking the Sharks to beat the Blue's. Well everyone except the monkey of course. If the Blues and Nashville win will all the TSN guys be fired? Here's hoping. The Toronto Sports Network could use some fresh blood (and some un-biased reporting)

Well, if Nashville beats the Wings, Maggie's gonna get her own show, and they'll build the set on the ruins of the Hockeytown carnage everywhere. And every person or primate that picks the Leafs just makes me more uneasy. Can't help it.

cam, the Isle did take the season series.

I picked them too, Cam. The Islanders have been hot lately. The goalie match-up favors the 'Ning by a country mile, but for some reason I wouldn't be shocked if a young team was upset by a streaking one.

don't forget the old "Isles have been playing playoff hockey for the last six weeks in their effort to make the playoffs" nugget.

The only way TB will lose to the Isles is if they run into injury problems. I can see TB cracking under pressure if they lose the first 2 at home, but I don't think the Isles can pull it off. Look for that to happen in the 2nd round. For the record here are my picks with games needed in brackets. Yes, I too want to look like an idiot when the monkey gets them all right. TB(5) - Isles win 1 at home MTL(6) - Theodore is the difference NJ(7) - Close, but Brodeur saves them in game 7 TOR(6) - It pains me, but Ottawa is slumping at a bad time DET(6) - Nashville gets extra points for effort STL(6) - The upset, but they will run out of gas in 2nd round CAL(7) - Yes, I am biased. Will be the best 1st round series. DAL(5) - They will run circles arounds the Avs. Could be over in 4.

Nashville has been very tough against the Wings this year, so it's not a stretch by any means. Actually, it's really hard to pick a dark horse for this year since the playing field is so even this year. Anyone can make it to the finals without being that much of an upset or surprise.

Is ESPN doing a playoff fantasy thing or what? Have they given up on hockey? WTF?

posted by garfield at 01:57 PM on April 06, 2004

Is this the official prediction thread, or should we take to the locker room for such shenanigans?

succa, good idea. To the lockerroom!
