Jagr on Broadway?: Fiiiiinally...TSN.ca is reporting that a deal has been worked out to send Jaromir Jagr to the Rangers for the underachieving Anson Carter.
Well, this is the best thing Washington has done for Canada since...uh...since...um....

Since.....acid rain. Bwahahahaha!!!! Funny thing is, AC was the best Ranger on the ice last night. 86, don't hold back. Let's hear it. I imagine he'll play with Nedved and Hlavac. I'd be so amped if the Leafs land Gonchar. Talk about a power play specialist. He's not the answer to their problems on the back end, but I think his numbers will be decidedly improved within the Leaf system. Oh right, Jagr...(internal dialogue: garfield, stay the course)...Newsflash: The Caps are Kaput.

Humbly, I'd like to suggest ten new tactics for the Rangers to take. One, never allow a player to play with the Rangers for more than three years in a row. Two, do not sign, trade for, or otherwise hire defensemen. Defense is not important. Three, waive all goalies. Four, play remaining games using only forwards. Attempt to out-score opponents by shooting wildly and occasionally propping Lundmark in front of the net as a sacrifice to all prospects past. Five, decline all draft picks. Six, raise ticket prices. Seven, re-hire Ron Lowe, Bryan Trottier and retain Glen Sather. Eight, blame injuries for failure. Nine, ban hustle. Show no respect for the trait. Ignore it completely. Praise and reward it's opposite with playing time and bonuses. And ten, set up those tee times. I'm thrilled, clearly.

The league would allow the Caps to do this? So much for the integrity of the game.

Hopefully this move would jumpstart Jagr's season. (full disclosure - I have him in the SpoFi hockey pool that I somehow seem to keep winning)

The Rangers are like the anti-Yankees. Spend and spend and spend and for what? They still won't make the playoffs this year. They make the rest of the league owners look intelligent by comparison.

So much for the integrity of the game. Actually, it might be a tactic on the part of the NHL. Put all the league's whiners and wankers on one team, and then keep them out of the playoffs! The Rangers should go after Hasek now. I'm so going to laugh when they miss the playoffs again. "Fire Sather" indeed.

9-1 Ottawa vs Rangers. Jagr -2. haha. Money well spent!

Damn, don't you give him one game, maybe one whole practice, to get settled in before jeering?
posted by billsaysthis at 09:18 PM on January 24, 2004
Not really. Though the jeering is for the NYR management more than Jagr. All the offense in the world can't save a team with weak defense and goaltending.

That definitely struck me as as such an anti-Sather move. If anyone knows that the Rangers need at least two more defensemen and at least a comparable goalie to Dunham it's him. Lousy move. As for Anson - he hated playing for Sather and I bet will start playing better now that he's out. Not the first guy to feel that way.

I'll lay even money the Rangers make the playoffs on this move. Any takers?

And if the reports are correct Washington isn't done. The strongest rumours have Peter Bondra headed to Ottawa, Olaf Kolzig to Vancouver, and Sergei Gonchar to the Leafs in what is becoming an all-out fire sale (disclaimer: Bruce Garrioch article, but the Bondra to Ottawa rumour has been going around a few days and some steam behind it).
