Sources: Jim Harbaugh Expected to Take Michigan Job: Two members of the San Francisco 49ers staff and a third NFL source said Saturday they expect 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh to accept a six-year, $48 million contract to become the head coach of the University of Michigan.

I think Jason Cole is in tune to the West Coast, Bay area. Makes sense to me, Michigan offering tons of money and Harbaugh going home to his alma mater. The "who's got it better than us" stuff always sounded college not pro.

The money quote is "His shtick works better with young guys who are gone after three or four years."

His first order of business will be wooing a good quarterback. I think that might work out well.

I'm surprised Harbaugh wore out his welcome so quickly at San Francisco. The team was mired in mediocrity for eight seasons before his arrival and his record is 43-19-1.

Taking two long time assistants with him...wonder what sort of personal strengths and attributes are required to qualify for that category.

They should remain as mum as possible about the salary. That isn't going to play well in some parts of the state no matter where the dollars are coming from.

If Harbaugh doesn't go to Ann Arbor, at least they had a taste of what it would be like if he had.

Move in different directions .... Harbaugh will make millions wherever he chooses and the Niners will get high draft picks for the next decade.

Obvious that the wrong side of the DeBartolo family wants the franchise to suck for some reason. Too bad the coach can't fire the management.

10 NFL teams and 10 top NCAA teams will be bidding for Harbaugh.
Mommy's team is the only team Jed York will ever manage.

Harbaugh will do well at Michigan. Then, after his contract nears its completion, the NFL will come calling once again. I suspect he will go the same route as Bill O'Brien, Pete Carroll, or Dennis Erickson and depart the Maize and Blue in favor of the green and greener dollars of the NFL.

I'm not saying that Harbaugh won't be drawn back to the NFL, but if the reported value of his upcoming contract is accurate, it is every bit as green as the pastures of even the most well-compensated NFL coaches.

The beauty of college is you have the alumni association overseeing decisions. Good coaches can't fail in such an environment.

Most NFL teams are owned by wealthy wannabe decision makers who don't have the first clue about sports and are more focused on their own fragile egos.

Winningest active coaches

Yikes ... so if the 49ers could somehow attract Belichick it would be a downgrade. Good freaking luck.

What is the opposite of Occam's Razor?

Mommy's team is the only team Jed York will ever manage.

As opposed to all the other family-owned teams managed by the scion of a different team?

Remember when Jim Harbaugh played Screech's cousin on Saved by the Bell'?
