Cowboys Release DeMarcus Ware: The Dallas Cowboys have released linebacker/defensive end DeMarcus Ware after a deal could not be reached to reduce his $12.5 million salary for the upcoming season. The best pass rusher in team history after being drafted in 2005, Ware has a team-record 117 sacks and the seven trips to the Pro Bowl. The move frees up $7.5 million in cap space.

Finally, a move that will prevent Dallas from finishing 8-8.

This is the perfect move to make, as it ensures that Tony Romo will have far more time on the field to prove he is the elite quarterback that the Cowboys have committed to making him.

Bunch of big contracts tossed out the door this week, Julius Peppers, Darrelle Revis, Champ Bailey, Carlos Rogers.

Ware spent his best days in an organization that didn't have a clue how to build to capitalize on his abilities. At least he made himself some money.

7 time Pro-Bowler on a team whose average defensive ranking averaged 26th in the league during his tenure ... what a freaking waste.

You thinking closer to 5-11 this year, rcade?

Yo Patriots, pay the man.

After all the Pats that have gone to the Jets over the years (Parcells, Martin, Izzo, Tupa, Mangini...), it would be only fair for Revis to help balance the flow a bit and land in New England.

Remember the gnashing and wailing when Shaun Ellis signed with the Pats? You never would have known that NY had snagged its share of Patriots over the years. Some people have short memories.

Optimist.

Ware is now a Bronco. They look to be monstrous this year; their cap liability might be the same in a couple of years.

Dallas Cowboys 2014 Schedule

Home: New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts

Away: New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, St. Louis Rams, Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans

Cowboys benefit from playing in a division where the best team, the Eagles, are at best progressing along a rebuild effort. Redskins and Giants are at or nearing rock bottom. Six games against that level of competition has got to yield 3 wins for any NFL team.

Jacksonville, Houston - another 2 probable wins.

St.Louis, Chicago, and Tennessee would not be major upsets but wouldn't expect more than 1 win.

5 - 11 or 6 -10 sounds about right.

Revis to the Patriots for 1 year, $12m. Probably a good number and a good term.

Broncos with Ware are going to have an outstanding front 7. The cap pain will hit in a couple of years as Peyton and his $20M cap number ride off into retirement; they have some flexibility.

Looks like we're headed for another Pats-Broncos showdown in the playoffs. But that's why they play the games...

Here's our take on the Ware signing from a fantasy football standpoint:

-Former Cowboys DE DeMarcus Ware has reached a 3-year, $30 million deal with the Broncos. It reportedly includes $20 million in guaranteed money, a tremendous sum for a guy Dallas dumped earlier this week. Ware missed 3 games and saw his production drop last year while he dealt with multiple injuries, but he still performed well when on the field. Heading into his age-32 season, Ware certainly upgrades the Broncos' pass rush. The money says we should continue to treat him as a starter when we put together our 2014 IDP rankings.
