Two Years Later, Remembering Brendan Burke

I think Brian Burke is a blow hard and a Neanderthal when it comes to some parts of the sport of hockey, but I've always respected him for his stand on LGBT issues in sport.
I don't know if the first opening gay player will be in Toronto (I suspect a player might be "outed" in a larger city like New York or Los Angeles), but that would be a sports moment that I would love to see the Leafs (and their fans) embrace.

Language criminal as well. "Rehabbing"?

As a 40 year old law student, I was pretty good friends with many of my professors. One was a native of Toronto who was fairly close to the Burke family. When this professor found out that I was a graduate of Miami University and a hockey player, he asked me if I'd be willing to mentor a new student the following year who was planning to head to California for law school. That kid, Being Brendan Burke, never made it. My prof. was fairly devastated.

At least he's got remedial options. Other people do not.
