Jaguars Hire Mike Mularkey as Third Head Coach: The Jacksonville Jaguars have hired Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey as the third head coach in franchise history and first under new owner Shahid Khan, the Florida Times-Union reported late Tuesday night. Mularkey, 50, was the head coach of the Buffalo Bills from 2004-05, amassing a 14-18 record.
They waited to make the hire official until after the Falcons had completed their season.
Once they saw the Falcons' offense crank it up this past Sunday, the Jags knew they had to move swiftly to snag their man.

Figured Mularkey was going somewhere after the Falcons pulled off those two points against the Giants. That game's brilliant display of the Falcons offensive prowess must have been the clincher for the Jags.

Mike was a great coordinator in Pittsburgh when he let for Buffalo. Give him a chance.
Blaming him for the Atlanta 2 pt choke job is like blaming Dick Labeau for the Steelers D blowing coverage. Atlanta has a list of problems on that offense and the Giants are starting to roll.

I can't say I'm enthused by this pick, but I'm glad the Jaguars are going with an offense guy. With the team's respectable defense, if they had even an average offense last season they would've won 3-5 more games.
Fans here were hoping for a splash hire like Jeff Fisher, but Jaguars GM Gene Smith is allergic to excitement. He passed on Tim Tebow when it would've meant 3,000 to 5,000 new season ticket holders, even though the team needed a new quarterback.
Regardless of last weekend's debacle, Mularkey's a good coach who isn't a reach. If the Jags use the draft and free agency to upgrade an offense that has only one weapon, I like the outlook next season.

They definitely have to do something about the holes in the offense produced by Matt Ryan, Roddy White, Michael Turner, Julio Jones, and Tony Gonzalez. If only they had as many weapons as the Rams or Buccaneers.

Well, Atlanta's O-line is clearly a problem. Hard to get much going on offense when your line cannot open up holes for the running game (or enough push to convert two fourth-and-shorts) and the QB is running for his life or on his back much of the game.

Sorry, 1 hole. No one to block. Hard for Ryan to throw from his back

The Jaguars are a joke. Having watched this guy in Buffalo, Mularkey is an appropriate name.
Get the moving vans ready!
